...A silly little notion i came up with one day, years ago; probably in high school. Just an idea of me (D'Ward) being able to do pretty much anything i wanted. well, i think i meant to have a list. (and i probly started one straight away, and i dunno if it's still in some notebook somewhere or not. probly not, and if i do have it, i've no idea where. it's not important.) anyhoo, it'd have various categories or something. i think.
1. one thing would be spelling things however i wanted. now one thing i might use to justify this was the existence of "temporal tricksters" who would mess with history in little ways people wouldn't catch. like for example, they might go back in time to when a word was first spelled, and alter the original spelling, so that their way would become the original spelling. so, obviously, in the future, evrybuddy would always remember a word having been spelled as they changed it, and not know that it had been changed. for some reason, some few people might be immune to certain of these time travellers' pranks. for example, i remember some words being spelled differently than evrybuddy else does. an example of that would be "puting," which most people spell "putting." but of course, the latter is an aspect of the word "putt," something one does to a golf ball with a putter. the former is an aspect of the word "put," something one does to just about anything they can move.
another example is the rule "i before e except after c, or when sounded as a, as in neighbor or weigh." many words will work within these exceptions, but some few, such as "height," don't. well, maybe that word should be pronounced as "hate," or maybe the grammarians forgot to come up with an exception for a few words like that... or maybe, just maybe- as i remember- the word was originally meant to be spelled "hight."
then too, and it's important to be clear on this, sometimes i can spell words wrong for some other reason, perhaps because they sound like they should be pronounced differently than how they're spelled. "prerogative," for example, i like to spell "perogative." of course, often i'll spell words as they're meant to be spelled, even if they're pronounced differently. it's up to me what i do. and of course, sometimes i (and others) spell words wrong just for the fun of it.
