James D'WARD is a human from Earth. At 18 he joined Star Control Primary Academy, fresh out of high school. AFter graduation he went to Chenjesu University, where he took varied courses from professors of every race in the Alliance of Free Stars. After that he did a year of post-graduate work that took him to all the different homeworlds of the Alliance. He then returned to Earth, where he began his career in Star Control.

Within a mere five years, he became captain of his own Earthling Cruiser, the Decker-B. After a year on Decker, he became a rear-admiral and was assigned by Star Control as a liason officer to the Alliance Fleet. Within five months, he was promoted to the rank of Alliance Field Commander. Officers of this position have the responsibility of overseeing and directing operations as the highest officer in a newly established sector of space, until such time as the sector has either been fully developed and secured against the Ur-Quan Hierarchy, or has been entirely taken over by the Hierarchy. When a sector has been secured, the field commander returns to All-Fleet HQ for reassignment, to oversee another sector.

D'WARD has overseen many sector developments since becoming a field commander. he almost always succeeds, and even when he fails, he always escapes with his life and the lives of as many of his people as possible. he has never lost any information or technologies to the Hierarchy, either.

He has been offered promotion to Fleet Commander, several times, the second highest rank attainable in All-Fleet, but he constantly refuses, preferring field work. For the time being. However, D'WARD does plan one day to semi-retire from his current position, and at that time may perhaps consider accepting a promotion. For now, tho, he wishes to help expand Alliance territory, and to limit that of the Hierarchy.

D'WARD is something of an archaeologist, as a hobby. he is familiar with all the Homeworlds, both in the Alliance, and to the highest extent possible, in the Hierarchy. However, his specialty is in Precurser Archaeology. He knows all that anyone currently knows about the Precursers, and keeps current on any and all discoveries made concerning them (and he makes his own considerable share of such discoveries).

as for his social life, he has dated women from all compatible races (mostly fellow Earthlings), including even an Androsynth who defected from the Hierarchy. D'WARD is currently involved with Aureelia, a Syreen captain in All-Fleet. she rarely Sings to him, and certainly never needs to.
