This is Jor-El from Superman: The Animated Series. He was made from a S:TAS Transforming Clark Kent/Superman figure. First, I glued the head in place so it wouldn't recede into the body (like so many Kenner "transforming" figures do). I then filled in the gap where this mechanism was as well as the lines defining the tops of his boots. Next, I Dremelled off the hair so that he was bald and resulpted new hair on with Sculpey. The collar is from an X-men Missile Flyers Bishop, which I cut down to resemble the one of the show and glued on. I then painted the figure prior to adding any more details: black for the body and hair, flesh tone for the face, and red for the collar.
When it came to the details, I used a variety of materials to make it quick and easy. All this could be done with Sculpey (if you have the patience, unlike me!). First, I cut the grey pads on his arms and legs from a piece of craft foam, painted them, and glued them on. The front and back "cloth tunic" pieces were cut from a 3x5" index card, painted, and glued on. The two round discs are the heads of tacks painted yellow, and the yellow stripe between them is another painted strip of 3x5 card. His headband was made from a very thin piece of phone wire (like one of the four wires inside a phone cord) painted yellow and glued on.
I am really proud of the way Jor-El turned out, but if I could change anything about him, I would have modified the figure's stance (like Tung Nguyen did) and made the pads from Sculpey rather than foam (as I did on my custom Lara).
