Lara

What's Jor-El without Lara? I made Lara from a Paris Elegance Anastasia body and an EWJ Princess-What's-Her-Name (PWHN) head. First, I removed the Ana head using the "boil-n-pop" method. I removed and discarded the train from her dress as well. Ana's dress flared out too much at the bottom - Lara's is more of a "column" style. So, I went about half way down her skirt and cut her in half. This was easy, as the lower portion of this figure is made of hard rubber. Then, I sculpted a new lower half with Sculpey so that it was straight and narrow all the way down. I also filled in the "waist" joint, since I didn't need it.

Ana also wears long gloves that extend up past her elbows, so I added Sculpey to her biceps to make the whole thing even all the way up to her shoulder. Once that was done, I added the red "sash" and collar using Sculpey. This covered the necklace details on the Ana figure.

On the actual neck part of the collar, I had to get creative. The body is a "female" joint (a hole that the head peg sticks into). But the PWHN head is also female - it has a hole in it that a peg from the body sticks into. So I cut a small piece of wooden dowel to serve as her neck and sculpted over that with Sculpey to get the right thickness. I didn't glue the head on yet, though...

For the head, I removed about the top fourth right above her eyes (she has BIG eyes, BTW). I had to fill in a little of the tops of those big eyes with Sculpey to make them smaller. Then I sculpted on the hair and her grey headpiece with Sculpey. I made sure that the head would still go onto the body with the hair prior to curing the Sculpey.

I then painted what I had completed so far: black and red for the body, flesh for the face, black, blue, white for the eyes, etc.

I had some additional details to add. I sculpted the grey arm pads from Sculpey and cured and painted them separately before attaching them to the figure. This made painting them MUCH easier. I also made the two yellow ovals from Sculpey and painted them prior to attaching them. That yellow band across her chest is a small strip of paper painted yellow. Doing these separately made painting them a lot easier. I painted the headpiece at the same time as the pads because I had to custom mix a light shade of grey for them.

I'm really proud of this figure. I think the head turned out especially well, since everything but the face was sculpted from scratch. A careful, precise paint job helped as well.
