My favorite view of Golden Gate Bridge, looking north from the
Toll Plaza.
Here you will find some pictures of my hometown,
San Francisco,
(come and spend your tourist dollars!), and some fun sound
files and miscellaneous stuff and junk.
The Tony Bennett Song
San Francisco Brewing Company
is a brew-pub located in the heart of North Beach. They
serve a variety of brews made on the premises, which was once
known as the Albatross Saloon. The original mohagony bar itself
is festooned with decorative flame carvings, but the eye is drawn
to the ceiling where the 1916 Pukka Walla horizontal fan slowly
rotates to clear the air and spread the cheer. Delicious pub-style
food is served for lunch and dinner. Try the Emperor Norton Lager,
a red ale-ish brew - it's my favoite.
The Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco is
the national capital of the Hippy Movement and ground-zero for
the Summer Of Love. Like most inner-city areas, it has its
problems. But there are some great gems to be found there. The
Pork Store is a dandy place for a huge breakfast. The Head Shops,
("Oh, no sir, we sell that item for smoking LEGAL substances!"),
are fun to walk through, with colorful posters and tshirts.
The Golden Gate Park Brewery and Pub opened
a couple of years ago and closed soon after. Too bad, too. I thought they had a good thing going. Apparently I was in the minority.
Oh well... Cheers anyhow!
The Golden Gate Bridge is sixty years old this
year. Back in 1987, when it turned fifty, more than 300,000
folks crowded onto it for the anniversary bridge-walk. In
this photo taken from the South Tower, you can see most
of the crowd. I'm there, too, with my new nephew,Taylor,
his mom, Melissa and bunches of friends who crashed at my place
the night before. It was a blast! I met James Doohan,
("Scotty, I need more power"!), there, who was in San
Francisco with his family during the filming of Star
Trek IV: The Voyage Home. There were so many bodies
on the bridge, that the built-in arch of the roadway
actually flattened out! The energy that day was out
of this world!
I designed THIS page for my friend, Liz.
We met about 12 years ago while riding
the same 5:30am streetcar to "Wall Street
West" every morning. Check out
her page for great outdoorsy stuff like
Whitewater Rafting, Camping, Cooking
and Gardening. Soon, she'll be adding
some pictures of her dogs and of camping
and rafting trips she's taken.
The San Francisco Forty-Niners! In 1995, we won
"One For The Thumb," our fifth Superbowl, (Superbowl XXIX).
This past season, (2001), we went from an 8-8 team to 12-5 team! I'm lovin' our "new" QB, Jeff Garcia! What a stud! Go Niners!
This is a map of the Sunset District, the
place I call home. I live less than a block
from
Golden Gate Park (the large green rectangle at top center)
on the south side. I think of the Park as my backyard. They
call it The Sunset District because it's so foggy here.
Ironic, isn't it?!
Anchor Steam Beer, made right here in San Francisco,
is the tastiest of brews. I recently found a beer survey on
the WWW which had Budweiser as the winner, confirming in my mind
that mass insanity is theoretically possible. Anchor Steam is
creamy, full-bodied and delicious, therefore a totally different
product from Bud.
