Lower Metrolegoland

Lower Metrolegoland

Metrolegoland has changed a lot over the years. It began as a small town, grew into a city, and eventually expanded into the valley below. This expansion essentially doubled the size of the city. A truck stop and a railroad were the first to appear in the lower city, and eventually a shopping center, two gas stations, a fire station, police station, airport, housing development and recreation center appeared. By 1994, Lower Metrolegoland was a full-service complement to Upper Metrolegoland. While the upper city had the high-rises office and apartment buildings, the lower city had a townhome neighborhood, single-family homes, parks, and plenty of open space.

When I went off to college in 1994, I was asked to move Metrolegoland from the big rec room in our basement to the smaller rec room. Sadly, this meant Metrolegoland had to be reduced in size. Essentially, the city was cut in half, and the lower city all but disappeared. I kept the upper area in tact, and still develop the downtown. The lower city was dismantled, but quite a few buildings were retained for posterity. These include The Palmer Building/Legoland Emergency Center, Cornell Center, Cooters, the Legoland Airport, and the big Shell service station and carwash.
