A tumbler full of water, Sweetened to an Ale, With a dizzy dose of Alcohol, Over a laughsome tale, Forget your ills and worries, Until you see the bill, Recount your quaint stories, And let all time stand still.
The Tavern was crowded with guests that were escaping the storm. Outside, through a misted window by the side you could see that the rain was getting heavier. The thudding sounds you could hear from the roof was somehow disconcertedly comforting.
Around the room, people were laying down their swords and raising their tankards instead. In a far off corner, two Centaurs were arguing, and in another a group, of Clerics was tearing at their fresh plates of baked pheasants.
The sweet smells of fresh food and warm Ale made your stomach churn, reminding you of your sole purpose for coming to the Tavern. Hungrily, you head for the counter.
"Greetings again!" K-Lerb popped out from below the other side of the counter to your astonishment. "I see hunger has struck you too."
You nod meekly, settling yourself onto the seat and asking about the food.
"Only the best!" K-Lerb boasted,"How about one of our priced Pheasant pies and Wild Garden soup, followed by our house specialty Frozen Cherry Juice!" Proudly, he ordered the Tavern lass over.
"Here, meet Sarah." K-Lerb pointed to a fair, blonde haired human girl.
"Greetings merry Wanderer." she curtsied, smiling sweetly. Placing a tankard of Ale from her tray before you. "Ah, now here is the priced possession of the whole Inne: The Gate Keeper's Ale! Carefully prepared with the freshest water and the purest Barley wheats. It is the companion for a loner like yourself."
You take a sip from the tankard, and surely enough, the Ale was among the best you have ever tasted. You give K-Lerb a positive review and he shone with pride.
"Have as many as you like, its on the house for you!" he leaned over and whispered,"But just take care not to arouse the notice of those Gnomes over there. They have been known to start one too many fights on a damp and rainy night."
