PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
The Waterworks Theatre Company is proud to announce the world premiere of "Voices on the Wind" at the American Renegade Theatre playing March 31st- April 23rd.
The play "Voices on the Wind" takes place during the final hours of the lives of Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti, the two Italian immigrants who were executed in 1927 for the murder of a paymaster and guard during a Massachusetts robbery. The case continued to be discussed and dissected throughout the 20th century including a declaration in 1977 from then Governor Michael Dukakis that acknowledged that their trial was "permeated by prejudice against foreigners and hostility toward unorthodox political views and the conduct of many of the officials involved in the case shed serious doubt on their willingness and ability to conduct the prosecution and trial of Sacco and Vanzetti fairly and impartially."
A special opening night Gala will follow the performance on March 31st. During this event the Italian Historical Society of America will be honored for their work in recognizing Italian-Americans and their contributions throughout American history including a special presentation from Mayor Richard Riordan's Office.
Performances are at the American Renegade Theatre, located at 11136 Magnolia Boulevard in North Hollywood, Thursday thru Sunday at 8:00 pm and a 3:00 matinee on Sunday. Tickets are $20.00 for general admission, $12.00 for students/seniors and group discounts are available. For reservations please contact the American Renegade Theatre Box office at 818-763-1834.
For more information on "Voices on the Wind" please contact Eric Erickson at the Waterworks Theatre Company at 310-770-5931.
Ancient Norse mythology tells of an ongoing battle between the gods of Asgard and the rock giants, a war that raged on through time until the days of Ragnarok, the Twilight of the Gods.
In today's American theatre we are caught in a battle between our own gods and giants. On one side we have the amassed army of the Avant-garde theatre. Once a powerful tool, it has devolved into a series of impotent productions, with all too few exceptions. The only purpose of these productions seems to be the feeding of the artist's ego. Audiences leave having no idea what they just saw or experienced and often feel alienated or even insulted.
Facing them and trapping us in the middle is a movement to strip theatre of it's edge. To oversimplify plays and spoon feed them to the masses. There is no bite. No edge. And above all no movement of the soul. Somewhere between the giants and the gods there is theatre that is still entertaining but thought provoking. Not over the heads of the people, but not stupified.
This is that theatre.
