Never one to pass up a new opportunity, Clinton seriously considered resigning as U.S. President to take this new position.
Fortunately for posterity, his advisors stepped in at the last minute to prevent this change of positions.
Clinton later explained this momentary laspe of his good judgment:
"I thought they had told me that if I took the new position, that my checks would always be good.
"I found out later what they had meant to say: that if I came to Cedar Rapids, that I would always have good Czechs in this bank."
