4th Dimension

by G. S. Reis

PhotoThis is a game of the future. Man has conquered the fourth dimension: Time. Thus the war between rival time lords begins, as two armies under their control face each other - not only in space, but also in Time...

BoardIn this interesting strategy game, the armies move on circular board. I let the background image out, in order to save ink. For a good effect, you can print it on colored paper, cut out the parts and paste them on cardboard paper of a different color. If you prefer a more sober look, print in grey scale. Whichever is your choice, you will have to print the picture twice and join together the halves of the circle.

I improvised the pieces with really cheap plastic miniatures found in shops which sell stuff for children's parties (I don't know whether you can find them in the same kind of shop in your country). Each army is formed by 1 Time Lord, 2 Guardians, 3 Rangers and 6 Warriors. Instead of using one color for each army (white and blue in the original game), I divided them into warm and cold colors. So, one army got red Warriors, yellow Rangers, orange Guardians and a coral Time Lord. The other got white Warriors and three shades of blue for the other pieces.

You can improvise the same way, but you don't need to use the same colors, of course. If you prefer, you can use Chess pieces, having the King as the Time Lord, Bishops as Guardians and Pawns as Warriors; but, as there are three Rangers, you will need an extra set, unless you choose to use different pieces (two Knights and a Rook, for example).

SetupThere are also two time-warp markers, but these can be anything: a bottle lid, a Checkers piece, a big die, whatever, as long as it fits in the spaces and you can place a game piece on top of it.

The scanned rules are in bad quality, thus I'm providing the starting position of pieces here. Other pictures refer to examples of play and are not essential.
