In Doom Patrol News...This coming April's Spring
break may just indeed be the host of yet another excursion
into Blissland, U.S.A in beautiful upstate
New York, by Doomers Jimmy, Jeff, Ray-O-Vac, and their pal
Billy. Yes, what might go down in history as yet another
drunken, yet nevertheless extremely creative out-pouring of
music, mayhem and plain good old frivolity, we will
nonetheless live up to our name and produce something out
of nothing. While I usually do not wax philosophical (as
does my fellow Doomer The Walnut) I still feel an
almost unconscious urge to replicate the Dionysian drum
poundings, nay the effervescent almost vomit-like of
rhythms to rival those of the gods of Mount Olympus. Oh,
Blissland, Oh, Blissland...While you are there not all is
lost.
In other news, V&R Productions is gearing up
for yet another print issue of "The Road-Kill
Review"(#6). Those unfamiliar with what B.F. Burke
calls our "funky, little publication" can e-mail me for
info on how to obtain back (and even future) issues. Being
that we are a not for profit organization (all proceeds go
back into production of upcoming issues) we do encourage
readership growth among our peers, and do accept outside
submissions. We print almost any type of creative
short stories, essays, poetry, comics, art etc. and are
totally anti-censorship. Yes, we of the Doom Patrol
believe in our right as Americans to use, and even exploit
the first amendment to our fullest advantage.
Well, I finally finished the "Doom
Patrol History Page." If you haven't already, check it
out. This link offers a less than comprehensive, yet fairly
good over-view of the origins and subsequent adventures of
this much maligned, often misunderstood, somewhat
misanthropic collection of mayhem makers.
3/26/97 Well, so far this week, there's no news. I know
this sucks, but so does the WORLD!!! Any how work is
progressing on Issue #6 of the Review, and Ray-O-Vac is
busy working on his book, "Cup-O-Java." C'mon Ray-O...try
and get one of these issues in PRINT sometime soon!?!
4/10/97 Well the April Fools issue of the Review went over
rather well. While I still haven't heard fom Mr. Burke,
I'll have to a ssume (yeah, yeah, I know about
assuming) he dug it too. The journey to Blissland is
a mere two weeks minus away...all of us are excited and it
should be cool. Later...
4/18/96 The trip to Blissland is less than a week away, and
already the anticipation is building. So far Jimmy, Johnny,
Jeff and Billy plan to go, but more of us may show up at
the last minute. Come back over the next six days for
updates...
4/18/97(B) Back again?!? Yep. just an update on this here
website...the response has been good, although most of the
feedback has been re. the Big Star links that I've
added...Still it does bring more people to the site, and
when the search engines begin to list this stuff, who
knows...Anyhow thanks to everyone who's visited here, and
keep coming back for updates, and additions that will
surely come...
5/8/97 What can I say...Blissland was blissful!!!
After an excellent weekend upstate, the reality of everyday
existance can only suck all the more. Those in attendance
were Jeff the Joker, Ray-O-Vac, Johnny, Jimmy K., Billy and
of course the Walnut. Much alcohol was consumed, (the
Samuel Adams Cream Ale was excellent) some music was
played, and a video and still photos were taken to
commemorate the event. Long live/exist Blissland!!!
We miss you already...
7/1/97 Man...is it really July already? Another excursion
into Blissland is being planned for this coming
August...hopefully this pilgrimage will yield even more
inspirational music, carousing and video, in addition to
who knows how many swell nifty pho-tos. The sixth issue of
the "Road-Kill Review" is in the works...submissions have
been pouring in, as usual, yet so far none from
Herb...hmmm, I wonder...This year marks exactly fifteen
years since the Summer of '82, and with it plans of much
alcohol consumption on the part of Jeff the Joker in the
hopes that the inspirations of his teenage years, more
specifically his 17th year of existance, might return...No
news from Johnny...Steve is, once again single; any
cyber-chicks with a penchant for the sublimely sublime
antics of pho-tographer, and Porno Prince, Steve, leave a
message at the e-mail address on the main page...Peace...
Gotta split...keep those e-mails comin', keep those phones
ringin', and keep watching the telethon...
January 18, 1998 Well, after an extremely
successful "Third Annual Telethon to Benefit the Boat
People" in August of 1997, the Doom Patrollers have
been resting up for their next full length video
project.... "The Road-Kill Review #6" is still in the
works, though the plans for a full feature theatrical
release based on the 'zine have been shelved
indefinitely... The Walnut has just released his
first CD on the Bliss label entitled
"Breathing". This CD contains previously released
material from the 1985 audio recording "Chris Walton
Anthology #1" that has been completely rerecorded, as
well as two new songs. Several other Bliss Product's
releases are planned for later in 1998... Jeff the
Joker is currently in the midst of his latest
neo-realist writing, "1982 - An Introspective" as
well as the ultimate All American Boy comic book story,
"The Death of the All American Boy" According
to Jeff these two works, "...have been slow and painful in
coming, almost like a man giving birth to an alien child."
March 8, 1997 Latest Doom Patrol Updates:
Steve and Jeff were busily at work last night on a special
promotional episode of Steve's Sphere. The
topic of this episode was the up and coming V&R Productions
/ 22nd Avenue Productions film That "Old Proud" Look
2000 which is currently in the works. Hoping to release
their film before the newest Blues Brothers fiasco,
"Blues Brothers 2000" sadly enough this was not possible.
As Jeff asserted last evening in an interview that will
appear in the next issue of "The Road-Kill Review,"
"When you have the financial backing that guys like
Aykroyd and Landis have, you can do pretty much anything
you want. Yes, our film was in production first, but guess
who had a bigger budget? Of course it is, once again
(as in the case of the "Steve's Sphere" show itself) US
that have gotten RIPPED off and OUR ideas stolen; then
again what else is new. F@$K 'em; we did it first, they as
usual are just being, as my friend Charlie put it, 'Copycat
chumps!' It's disgusting..." Work will resume on this film
later this month. In addition Chris aka "The Walnut"
has agreed to take part in the recording of the film's
soundtrack during this coming Spring's pilgrimage to
Blissland in
April 1998... In other news: The Walnut has just released
his second and third CDs on the Bliss label,
"Chris Walton's Guide to Better Grooming" and "When Spirits
Flow." Music critic Jeff the Joker has gone on record as
saying that these two discs are "phenomonal" and are a
"must have" for any music collector / listener in the
universe.... In the Doom Patrol social circle: Tom
P. '98 has recently gotten married this past February 15th.
The only member there for the ceremony was best man
Jeff the Joker. After giving what he believed was an
insubstantial toast to the new bride and groom, Jeff then
proceded to get SMASHED on Jack Daniels and
Cokes. The last seven hours of the reception, according to
Jeff, "Were a blur..." Ray-O-Vac has been missing in
action, along with Jimmy DeKay. Funerals are being
held for both, though it is uncertain if they are actually
alive or dead... Herb R. has also been missing in
action, though several skeletons of small mammals and
amphibians have been found nearby where it is purported
that he is employed...
3/28/98 BLISSLAND, Spring 1998 is COMING!!!
