Greek of the Week!!! (Greek of the Week!!!)
Stavroula "Stacey" Bletsis
For this week's performance of Quasi-Weekly, Stavroula "Stacey" Bletsis
will be our featured senior. This amazing senior transcends many musical
categories, is intelligent, witty, and everything that the archetypal "big
sister" would be.
Let us focus on some of the labels she has broken: tenor /'ten-ohr/ n.
the highest natural adult male singing voice; also : a person having this
voice. Well, I guess Webster had better delete the male part, because of the
two "unisexular" tenors, Stavroula being "girly tenor 1." Yet in breaking
this convention, she is the only tenor that can sing like a soprano.
Stavroula is taking both Music Theory AP and Biology AP. She plans to
use these skills in the future to be a
biologist-composer-singer-actress-hula-dancer-basket-weaver-director. Where
she will find the time or college to train for this (these?) job(s), who
knows, but as they say, follow your dream and do what you're good at!
Stacey is currently assisting in writing the lyrics for a soundtrack for
the 1997 C.H.S. Children's Play of Jack and the Beanstalk, after having
directed the ancient greek drama of The Menaechmus Twins this fall. (Though,
it wasn't Athensish, more Sicilyish.) She has auditioned for the musical,
Camelot, and is no virgin to the stage. Last year, she was the understudy to
the nefarious nanny-turned-opium-dealer-prostitute, Princess Puffer/Angela
Prysock in Drood, and has starred in many other shows and plays in addition
to vocal performances.
Does anyone want to know a secret? It's about Stavroula! I bet no one
knows this one. Are you ready? Okay, I'll type it really small so it's like
I'm whispering. she's Greek. Ha! I bet you didn't know that! Okay, well,
maybe you did, but I wanted to make sure.
The Mr. Sketch company has an official announcement to make. They are
proclaiming Stacey their "poster child" for 1997. Yes, since she has shown
such an undying and outstanding devotion to their markers, they have decided
to put her on the covers of all their boxes of markers. Plans are also
underway to rename the scents of them to her preferences. (Kool-Aid, Tang,
Froot Loops, Binaca, Scratch-N-Sniff, Skittles, Big Red, and Ouzo 12.) See
the call board for more details on that... Congratulations Stacey.
I would just like to point out that since last year, Stavroula seems to
have cured her case of Dunse [sic]. It is already second semester, and she
has not yet dunsed this year! I hope I'm not jinxing her by pointing this
out, but I think this is quite a feat.
Well, this ends another edition of the Quasi-Weekly: Tribute Edition.
