"Give me your poor, your tired, your hungry, your huddled masses..." This is the quote on the Statue of Liberty, the symbol of America welcoming immigrants to enjoy our freedom. But now what? Our country is full of people. So many immigrants have come to America that we must have bilingual instruction in our schools for the children of sometimes illegal aliens.
So how do we tell them to stop coming? Add the typical United States Government addendum? "Please, keep your people, we don't have any more room here." or perhaps "Give me your poor, your tired, your hungry, your huddled masses, but I can't accept them, so the above is only a formality kept for the sake of history."
Our problem, it seems, has become thus: we are all, every single one of us except the Native Americans, descended from immigrants. Our ancestors learned of these oppurtunities, and came here. Now that we are here, we are forced to try and turn away millions of people who are just like our ancestors. Many of them have sold everything to get here, and have nothing to go back to, no way to get there. Even our President, when giving his nationality and heritage, names other countries. We all do. I say that I am a "mixed breed" like a dog, but really all I need to say is "American." Now how do we deny that to others?
