The spring house near Moody Dining Hall is the oldest structure on the Hollins campus, dating back to the early nineteenth century. The piece I was working on at that location utilized graduation speeches and various other student texts from 1897-99. It would have been performed in period costume with the audience watching from the path above the spring house. This piece was to be performed in naturalistic style which the character taking advantage of the spring house's privacy to write and rehearse her speech. The concept was to use only the words in the original text, but to change the tone and action through physicality and intonation.
