The crimson chain

In the center of the overwhelming Forest of Agony,
beyond the Styx lay the Castle of Remorse.
Deep down under Remorse was a chamber,
completely embraced in barbed wire.

In the chamber there was a chest of lead with a heavy iron lock.
Within the chest lay a frozen stone.
The stone was chipped and charred,
and marked by the swords of many nationalities.

It had been hidden in the chest for an almost endless amount of time.
It's black surface had long since stopped glowing the way it once had.

There had been a number of attempts to take the stone away from the chest,
away from Remorse,
even out of Agony,
but each try had only locked it deeper in.

So one day a demon found the tiny golden key to the iron lock.
The demon owned a a beautiful diamond,
which unfortunately had been treated roughly by other demons,
but it still glowed and glittered.

The demon knew, that if he could only get the black stone in the chest of lead,
he would be able to make his diamond perfect again,
and on the same time get the black stone to shine,
brighter than ever before.
So he decided to leave his Hell to reach for the stone.

The quest was no easy task,
and when he got to the river Styx another trial appeared:
He must only bring one stone over it.
No more,
no less.
Thus he brought his diamond with him through Agony and into Remorse.

He found the chamber and turned his key in the iron lock.
But he could not take the stone with him.
He held it for a shivering moment,
and felt it's glow awakening.
Then with a sigh he attached a chain of crimson light to it;
a pulsating, warm light,
which melted the stone slowly.

He carried the stone with him out of the chamber,
out of the Castle of Remorse,
and into the Forest of Agony.
But further he could not take it,
for the Styx was in the way.

So he left it in the Forest of Agony and passed the Styx,
with his diamond also linked to the crimson light.
He swore to one day return,
to somehow bring the stone with him.

And so the demon went back to his Hell,
and the black stone was still in the Forest of Agony,
but they would always be linked to eachother
with the crimson chain.
