Eyes
There were those that refused to look into mine--
I know not whether for fear of what he might see in mine
or
for fear of what I might see in his.
Avert your eyes, boy;
Your words may not betray you,
but your eyes might.
There were eyes I could not meet--
Eyes that were searching for something in mine,
something I feared could not be found.
Fight the urge to avert your eyes, girl;
Your heart may not yet know better,
but your eyes do.
These eyes have seen both sides of the coin.
Few have escaped that fate--
Those who have perfected the art
of averting the eyes.
