-=* The Sleep of Innocence *=-

The light stole silent through the room

and took away the midnight gloom.

I raised up from my quiet doze,

And saw her face in sweet repose.

Lovely lashes trailing down,

Her hair looked like a silken crown.

Her face all free of life's events,

She sleeps the sleep of innocence.

When she's awake with me, at times,

I'm moved to write her pretty rhymes.

And give her verses from my heart,

Within them, we shall never part.

And in return she comforts me,

And says here she'll forever be.

But this is where I love her best,

Asleep...and snuggled to my chest.

Her laugh I'll always seek to find,

Her smile is of the sweetest kind.

But in my arms, forever hence,

She'll sleep the sleep of innocence.
