ANIM_BULLET_WHITE-BLUE.gif (275 bytes)Rita's success came almost overnight with her first album, in 1986. Her voice is very powerful but Rita knows how to modulate to make it sound also like a silky whisper. I think that Rita is definitely one of the greatest Israeli singers. About two years after the first best seller album, Rita released "Yamei Tehom" (Days of Innocence) which is perhaps her best album to date as far as I am concerned. In 1990, Rita represented Israel at the Eurovision with a beautiful song, "Shara Barechovot" (Singing in the Streets), that did not do well at all... That's too bad because I sincerely think that the song is really really good.Anyway, we'll have to wait 1994 to get a full new album, "Ahava Gdola" (Big Love) which was a huge success. Rita did many sold out tours throughout Israel. Rita is also an inspired actress and played in several musicals, including the Hebrew version of   "My Fair lady" (the CD is even available). At the time of the release of her first album,1986, Rita (using her full name, Rita Faruz) also made an album in   English, called "Breaking those walls", which was more or less the same album as the Hebrew one, only in English plus a few songs, like "Roxanne" (Sting). The English album never made it to the charts, but about a decade later, strangely, Rita re-released her old version of "Roxanne" and...hit the jackpot in Europe where the single remained for several months in the charts. The funny thing is that Rita did not pursue a European career and chose to go back to Israel. When you see what happened to Ofra Haza, I think that Rita made the right choice! After "Ahava Gdola", Rita released one sort of "greatest hits", with previously unreleased songs or live version and one live album (packaged with a video tape). Many of Rita's songs are composed by her husband, Rami Kleinstein, another talented singer. In any case, Rita is more popular than ever, and this despite a hiatus of a few years: quality never goes out of style!
