The Nunavut Implementation Commission (NIC) is currently meeting to begin the selection of the emblems for this new territory. Contests and requests for ideas from the public have generated much interest and many designs and suggestions have been received from all parts of the North, the rest of Canada and from other places in the world. There are so many cultural and historic icons to select from: Which will they choose and what will the new flag and coat of arms look like. It's an exciting time in the Arctic! It has a population of 3,600 and is located approximately 2,000 kilometres from Ottawa. The mean temperature in January is -30°C and in July is 15°C. Iqaluit experiences 24 hours of daylight per day in June, and six hours per day in December. Most Northern Community Grise Fiord is the northernmost community in Nunavut. It has a population of 130 people and is located approximately 2,700 kilometres from Ottawa. The mean temperature in January is -35°C and in July is 10°C.
