Catalogue structure

I was unable to run a useful free Perl-CGI database on a free server so knowledge of the structure of the catalogue is useful for the user.

Hierarchy:-
Set of rolls grouped by year
Tables of negatives grouped by roll
Description of negative within table

Each negative has an eight digit reference number, the first four give the year in which the the roll was started (or occassionally the year of processing), the next two are the serial number of the roll and the last two are the numbers printed on the celluloid under the negative image.
The reference number components are not normally separated, they are separated by dots when only the roll is referred to.

Dates & times are in the international format of YYYY MM DD HH MM, usually separated by spaces, occassionally by dots, but not by dashes.

Thus dates and reference numbers are sometimes confused by the search facility - this would require a data restructuring to resolve and take up more space. This will not be done in the near future (if at all), so it is a matter of using common sense at the moment.

The catalogue will be viewable (generally) with Netscape, but the font size may need to be turned down. It was designed to run on Internet Explorer and there is little chance of a major redesign.
