kay, I finally got around to writing one. This is about people who are making me rather upset right now. Here's the situation: I'm in JCL (Junior Classical League, |

a.k.a. Latin Club) and I have a really good chance of going to state. This is the first school activity I've really been good at. I have a lot of fun at competitions. Well, our senior prom is scheduled for the same weekend as state and I really don't want to be in Amarillo instead of my senior prom. We talke to the teacher organizing the prom and she said there is no possible way to move it. I don't believe that. My Latin teacher and I decided to start a petition. We have support from every group in the school- cheerleaders, jocks, Victoriadores, choir, speech club, UIL people (who are also affected by this).... Not to mention angry parents. Magistra told them to let the students (me) argue their case before they came into it. We don't want to make a bigger deal out of things than we have to. Then they're less likely to accomodate us. Anyway, I'm getting a lot of support from students and parents. The problem is teachers who say they support us "in spirit" but don't want to put their names down on paper. These are teachers who tell us we need to stand up for ourselves and do more than just talk about doing something. And other students who say it doesn't stand a chance and why am I even bothering. If I don't, then of course nothing will happen. I know this isn't some big social issue. It's a bunch of kids who want to go to the prom. That's what makes it even sadder. What if I as trying to effect social change? And they're afraid to even put their names on this? |

By the way, check back later to see the whole petition thing turns out. |
