kay, I finally got around to writing one.  This is about people who are making me rather upset right now.  Here's the situation:  I'm in JCL (Junior Classical League,

a.k.a. Latin Club) and I have a really good chance of going to state.  This is the first school activity I've really been good at.  I have a lot of fun at competitions.  Well, our senior prom is scheduled for the same weekend as state and I really don't want to be in Amarillo instead of my senior prom.  We talke to the teacher organizing the prom and she said there is no possible way to move it.  I don't believe that.   My Latin teacher and I decided to start a petition.  We have support from every group in the school- cheerleaders, jocks, Victoriadores, choir, speech club, UIL people (who are also affected by this)....  Not to mention angry parents.  Magistra told them to let the students (me) argue their case before they came into it.  We don't want to make a bigger deal out of things than we have to.  Then they're less likely to accomodate us.  Anyway, I'm getting a lot of support from students and parents.  The problem is teachers who say they support us "in spirit" but don't want to put their names down on paper.  These are teachers who tell us we need to stand up for ourselves and do more than just talk about doing something.  And other students who say it doesn't stand a chance and why am I even bothering.  If I don't, then of course nothing will happen.  I know this isn't some big social issue.  It's a bunch of kids who want to go to the prom.  That's what makes it even sadder.  What if I as trying to effect social change?  And they're afraid to even put their names on this?
Then there are students afraid of getting in trouble.  Afraid a teacher isn't going to like them anymore.  Yeah, we sound like we're serious, don't we?  They like they don't believe anything should really be done; they just think it would be kinda nice if we'd get some help, but not to trouble you or anything, it wasn't my idea, don't get mad at me.  Of all the people who act oh-so-passionate about this, I'm the only one doing the work.  I'm the one going to meet with the principal next week with my only moral support being the teacher.  I've had one person go out with me and ask total strangers to sign (Thank you, Cody).  Everyone has something more important to do.  They don't deserve the effort being made on their parts.  They're not willing to do something to help me out.  Yes, go to the prom you've been so looking forward to.  That will have been made possible for you to go to by
someone else's hard work.  It's not a big deal in the long run, but I'm still facing so many setbacks from people.  Not that it makes me think of just dropping the whole issue and faking sick while I should be at state.  I want to prove them wrong and let them know that one student's efforts can make a difference. And at the moment, that's all it is: One student's efforts.

By the way, check back later to see the whole petition thing turns out.
