Edward was the first child of James and Frances Vopal. He was born in 1916.

He played basketball at Boy's Tech High School in Milwaukee, WI. Unfortunately, he passed away quite young in a drowning accident at Potter's Lake in Wisconsin. This was rather unusual, because Edward was a certified lifeguard; as was his brother, George. He had been in a car accident not too long before his death, and some family members feel this is the cause of his drowning.
