Onion



Onion is the King of the harem. He was purchased right before Christmas 2001 when he was approximately 3 or 4 weeks old. Sara and Mavra are probably closely related, probably with the same father, and possibly the same mother.

Onion was named by Eliot. First he thought he should be named Shallow Chocolate. But that was too long. So then he thought he should be named a combination of the two words: Shoclate. That still seemed a bit much, so he changed it a little bit more, and his name was Shallot. When told that was the name of a kind of Onion, Eliot decided that Onion was really a cool name, so our male mouse has the name of Onion. When my mind is really not on Mousy Matters, I sometimes accidentally call him Olive. Don't ask me why, because I don't think Onion and Olive have much in common beyond being food items and starting with the letter O

I don't know all of Onion's genetics. One web site had a mouse which was considered to be a Mock Silver Agouti, due to a missing Cch

  1. A = Agouti Coloration
  2. B = Full Color (not brown)
  3. cch = Chinchilla gene, turns the brown strip on each hair into white or silver
  4. c = Albino
  5. D = Full Color (No dilution) I'm not sure about this one, he may have some dilution
  6. P = Dark eyes
  7. Wsh = banded

I will know more about Onion's genetics when Mavra and Sara have their litters.
