The Legend: Kauria's Dream
It was silent.
The utter silence was the first detail she perceived, which was broken only by the
soft noise of her steady footsteps. She felt uneasy, as though she were being watched.
A sharp click sounded behind her. She paused and looked around, but could not
see well past the light of her candle. Shadows from the low torchlight darted across the
walls of the corridor. Nervous, she pressed on, a little faster.
The faster she walked, the more her uneasiness increased. Before long she broke
into a run. . . she could clearly hear the foot falls that matched her pace; the footsteps
that were gaining on her.
The candle flickered and was blown out by the speed of her flight. The few torches
on the walls gave insufficient light as she raced by, and all she could see was the
fluttering phantoms shadows on the stone walls.
He persuer neared, and she felt as though she were running in slow motion. Yet
she continued to flee, fearing for her life...
