LOSS OF INNOCENCE
by
Rose McMahan
I saw her late one evening
Dressed all in shimmering
white.
Pleading hands reached out
to touch me
Underneath the pale moonlight.
I wondered where she
came from
And why I couldn't see her face
Then quite suddenly she vanished
Without the slightest trace.
I peered around the stillness
To see where she had gone,
Missing her for some reason
As I stood there
all alone.
I searched for her
as years sped by
Unable to forget,
While deep within my
heart I felt
A stirring of regret.
A part of me knew she
was gone
Forever out of sight,
For it was "loss of innocence"
That haunted me that night!
