SHALL I?
by
Rose McMahan
Shall I sing you a song
from my childhood
Shall I write you a poem
from the heart,
To carry your weary soul onward
'till life and its shadows depart? Shall I smile at you
each morning
Shall I kiss you at closing of day,
'till time fades off
into nothing
And cares of this earth pass away? Shall I dance with you
in the moonlight
'Till the sun comes rolling around,
Morning mists are gathered
to Heaven
And dew is dried from the ground? Or shall I just sit here
by your side now
Shall I quietly hold to your hand,
'Till the angels all sweep
down from glory
And carry us home
to that land?
