Born in the United States, CAROLINE PARRY has lived in India, Israel, and England and is now a Canadian citizen. She taught primary school in Yorkshire before emigrating to Victoria B.C. in 1973. Subsequent jobs include administration for a medieval theater group, peer counseling, nursery school teacher, folk singer, and folklore and folktale consultant to Houghton mifflin Canada.
CAROLINE has a long-standing love for folk customs and cultural celebrations. Her published books include Let's Celebrate: Canada's Special Days (Kids Can Press, 1987), A Rhyme For Me (Houghton Mifflin, 1991), Zoomerang A Boomerang (Kids Can Press, 1991), and her soon to be released Elenora's Diaries (Scholastic, 1993). Among her special interests are mummers and may poles, family roots and rituals, old letters and journals.
She likes to have fun with folklore and history. She delights in sharing songs and stories, rhymes and riddles, poems and games, dancing and dulcimer music, pictures and props. These materials are gently shaped for appropriate age groups. Special themes are a welcome challenge. She has a large repertoire of programs around seasonal celebrations as well as 19th century history.
