PETER RYAN

 

Peter Ryan is a teacher and educator with over twenty years of experience in the literary and performing arts. He instructs professionals and students in theatre, dance and physical education in Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal and throughout Ontario.

He taught senior English and coached in Port Coquitlam, BC, where his best runner shared athlete of the year honours with Terry Fox. In 1983, he

co-founded EDAM, a performing arts company in Vancouver, whose first major work was entitled Run Raw : Theme and Deviation, a blend of sports and dance. Prior to this, Peter established himself as a successful freelance dancer, performing and teaching throughout British Columbia and across Canada. He has also been a dance consultant to the Vancouver School Board and was a dance critic for many years.

Synthesizing his experience in international athletic competition, professional dance and academic research, he has developed a unique approach to the use and training of the human body. As an extension of this, he is currently writing a book on physical training for actors and performers.

Recently, Peter has taught both able-bodied and handicapped children in dance and theatre through the National Ballet of Canada, Ottawa Dance Educators and Carleton University. He also consults for the business community, leading seminars in presentation skills and improved physical performance.
