Six years ago, Marie had lost her beloved husband and unborn first child in a senseless car smash. And this is just the kind of day that reminds her of the tragedy.

She is sitting in her usual window seat in the café, looking out at the rain. As on every morning, she waves to the little red haired girl who reminds her of the baby she should have had. Then she sees the child abducted.

This is the gripping, heart-wrenching start to Elizabeth Delisi's book, Since All is Passing. Both a romance and a crime thriller, the story takes the reader on a roller coaster ride of a lone woman risking her life for a child who is a stranger. The handsome police officer starts being supportive, and more than a little interested in Marie, but by the time she is in real danger, her credibility with him is thin. Her nightmares had driven her to telephone him too often, at the wrong hours.

Marie's emotions rang true as I read the story. A person with her sad background would react just like that, and I cheered at her courage, held my breath as I read of the risks she was taking, groaned at the repeated reverses of fortune. I won't give away the end, but it's a cliff-hanger.

I can recommend this book as an enjoyable read. Only, I still don't know where the title comes in.
