Feather dusters are the well known status symbol of chamber-maids all around the world. The most famous dusters are made out of ostrich feathers. While feather dusters could be found in every household only a few decades ago, nowadays real feather dusters are used only rarely. Their place has been taken by chemical cleaning agents and antistatic plastic dusters. |

But
cats still swear on the good old feather duster as their favorite playmate
and arch enemy in one person. So if you do not use them for your furniture
anymore at least have one at home to entertain your small house tiger.
Another use for modern day feather dusters are as painting tools for interior
walls. The dusters are used like ordinary brushes and give the walls a
special touch.

Feather
dusters can also be found in the movies. Usually they are just equipment
which does not add to the narration. The exception can be found in Walt
Disney´s "Beauty and the Beast". The feather duster in
this story has been even given a life of its own. The flirtatious Babette,
one of the enchanted employees of the Beast, is saved by Lumiere the candleholder.
This must be true love.

Another
creature shares the name with the former popular household article. The
beautiful underwater plants called Tube Worms are living in the shallow
water on the ground of the ocean are also called "Featherdusters".
They suck in small particles with their tentacles like our domestic featherduster
sucks in dust.
