Joanne's Poetry Page
In 1981 I had my first book of poems, short stories with illustrations published. Below are two of my favourites from that book called "Between The Lines".
Hope you like them!
"THE SWAGMAN"
A figure is walking down a long lonely road.
Slowly he walks, as if he has the whole load of the world,
Now as he comes closer his appearance takes form
That of a snail.
Carrying his house and worldly possessions on his back.
His home changing every night
He knows many different places,
Some with the feeling of emptiness and others the joy of happiness.
His life is one big travelling tour.
Searching for a place he will make his home -
Or is he destined to go forth and wander?
Too restless to stop and change his life-style now.

"COUNTRYSIDE"
The open space of a countryside,
With the breeze gently blowing through the long grass.
Trees standing in the freedom of the vast open landscape
Along with the wild flowers that blend in with the scenery.
All things growing and living together in harmony.

Some other poems that I have written since then are...
"Blue"
Blue is a colour that we see every day.
The sky with that bright ray,
Water out in the bay.
Blue can be felt sometime.
A song with words and rhyme,
One done in slow time.
Blue can be cool.
Like a swimming pool,
Not like a mule.
Blue covers most of this earth.
Which anyone can berth,
And gain from the worth.
Blue is peaceful and serene.
The sash that gleams,
On Our Lady in white, so clean.
Blue is all of this to me.
All that I want it to be,
It is a shame that the blind can not see.

"Being Busy "
No need for me to have any money,
I have plenty of honey,
Each day I collect pollen,
Which doesn't come from Holland,
'Cause I'm an Aussie bee
You see.
