David Stone, Poet
The son of Ed and Ruth Stone, David Stone was born in Chicago, now lives in Baltimore with his wife Marilyn, and son, Noah. He makes his living as a business consultant, though he studied philosophy at the graduate level.
He describes his religion as "(Jewish-) Poet," his political affiliation as independent.
"Most (of the poets) of the Western Tradition" have influenced his work. About his favorite living poets, he says, "Poets die first and become seasoned later." Among his favorite all-time poets are Baudelaire, Celan, Mandelstom and Berryman--who, with the exception of Celan, are the critics who have influenced him. He has no favorite critics, "except poet-critics."
Another art that he pursues besides poetry is painting. As a reader of poetry he values language, philosophy and existential matter. He grew up, he says, in space race--physics environment. degree in philosophy--specialized in German phenomenology." As a poet, he tries "to reach with language." "I think," he goes on to say, "American Poetry is yet to be made. Hasn't quite found its voices." Contemporary poetry he believes to be "at its cutting edge."
He rates three publications worthy of having entries in the Comprepoetica dictionary: Phoenix Press, Collages & Bricolages and Eratica. He's had work published in numerous places. His list of works includes, the dark ship Eclipse, The Joking Muse, Specular Shards, sphinx hold and cold wave.
His comments about life-in-general: "America as a culture is anti-poetry but poetry like all else in a free society has its share + the poet must be ture to his muse."
