Bobbie West, Poet/Editor
West lives in San Diego, CA USA. Her e.mail address is Ctfarmr@aol.com
West feels that among the poets who have influenced her Tom Raworth and Rae Armantrout (her teachers) stand out. She also mentions Hannah Weiner, Bruce Andrews, Will Alexander, Ron Padgett, Ted Berrigan, Anselm Hollo, Maggie O’Sullivan, Joan Retallack, Lorine Niedecker, Larry Eigner, Gregory Corso, and Paul Celan (specifically, the Pierre Joris translations of Celan). Among her many favorite living poets (not listed above) are Lisa Jarnot, Heather Fuller, Hoa Nguyen, Kevin Opstedal, Mark Wallace, Bob Perelman, Ron Silliman, Ed Dorn, Gustaf Sobin, and David Bromige. As for no-longer-living poets, she likes Whitman
and, for some of his work, Poe.
As for living critics "Marjorie Perloff and Hank Lazer are the only ones that come to mind as 'favorite.'"
Magazines that have published her work: Key Satch(el), Gas, Tinfish, Misc. Proj., Mike & Dale’s Younger Poets (and its successor, Skanky Possum), and Tool. A chapbook of her work, Scattered Damage, (Meow Press, 1998) is available through Small Press Distribution. She is also the Associate Editor (working with Editor Tom Beckett) of a collection of essays, A Wild Salience: the writing of Rae Armantrout, which is due out soon (March ‘99) from Burning Press.
