Top Fantasy Advice -

1.) Know your League's unique rules.
2.) Take the size of your league into consideration. Our league has 12 teams and therefore RB's will be at a premium since there are only 8 solid backs this year.
3.) RBs, RBs, RBs ... always draft at least 2 solid players at this position. Should be your first 2 picks. WR's are waiver material. Watch for good third year WR's that are just breaking out (David Patten, Darrell Jackson, Tai Streets), especially early in the season.
4.) Draft the best values at each position. Break your draftees into Tiers and always try to get top tier players.

Our rules greatly favor WR's since fumbles and interceptions hurt the fantasy value of both RB's and WR's. Additionally, QB only receive 1 point for every 35 yards so our league respects quarterbacks that throws for lots of touchdowns and few interceptions (so NO Favre or Culpepper's, but rather Brady's and my sleeper, Tommy Maddox).

Our league also plays 2 defenses and rewards them heavily for even things like Return Yards. Since there are only 32 teams in the NFL, having 2 starting defenses that are good is critical. (2 Def x 12 teams=24, so only 6 teams will have a backup for Bye weeks).

Solid team all around. 2 RB's in the first 2 rounds then 3 solid wideouts. Picked 2 safe QB's in rounds 8 & 13, and got 2 of the top defenses early. Best of luck to all!

Archive: Gotta love those 9-5 and Playoff Bound Pats AKA the AFC defending champions.

Go PATS!

Week 17 Last Game

Monday Night: Marino needs to be pressured. The once cool and collected qb is now easily susceptible to fumble and toss bad passes in his old age. These turnovers are going to be key for the pats to capitalize. The pats mixed up their blitzes beautifully last week against the steelers. They would fake the linebacker blitz and then the LB's would fall back in to coverage as the safeties came flying in. This caused incredible confusion for the steelers. Kordell would try to read the LB blitz where the steeler wide receivers were supposed to do a slant in or a post pattern to the newly vacated LB areas. But since the LB were only faking, the WR had no where to go and kordell had no idea where to throw(so he threw it right to out defensive backs). Instead, the safeties blitzed, in which case the WR should do a quick out since the LB can't keep up with a WR on an out pattern. Carroll has some pretty mean blitzing schemes. Let's hope we can confuse the poop out of that veteran Marino. 12-16-97

Week 16(two games left)

My picks were right on the money last week. Called all the major upsets except that big loss for the Jets by the colts that essentially knocked them out of the playoff picture. The AFC east is clearing up. It looks like the pats could run the table and get a first round bye since their record would be better than those nasty steelers. But before I get ahead of myself, the steelers are red hot and dangerous. Riding the unstoppable Speed Bus, those sweet hands of Thigpen, and that AFC college impersonating scrambling QB, Kordell Stewart, plus the infamous D of the Steel Curtain. Granted this is a home game at Foxboro, but the steelers are on a roll of 4 of 5. This could be like the AFC second rounders last year where the Pats won a thriller in the fog. It is not the end of the world for either team, but it would help to clinch the division and get that extra week of rest during the playoffs. 12-9-97

7 out of 15
*Giants over Skins. Big because of NFC East title on the liine. Homefield plays big in this one.
*Pats seem overinflated right now, as are the Steelers after two big wins. Turnovers will be the key to this game. I guarantee that whoever turns the ball over more will lose this game. The Bus will not have a major impact on this game although his average would beg to differ.
*Cowboys beat the Bengals to add to their dismal season. Jerry Jones is the biggest bonehead in sports(well besides Dan Duquette).
*Injured Vikings beat the Lions knocking them out of the playoff picture.
*Ravens passing game is too much for Eddie George's Oilers
Jagaurs eat up Bills
*Dolphins finally win in Indy(where they are 0-3). Force pats to squish the fish in Miami on a huge MNF game.
*Eagles outfly Falcons
Bucs(possibly 2nd best team in the NFl IMHO) humiliate Jets in NJ Meadowlands.
Cardinals win, Saint's Ditka says seeeya
Packers beat poor panthers
Chiefs9number 4 most feared team) romp over Chargers
*Raiders win with angered Tim Brown calling his own number for 3 TD receptions. he's pissed and calling the plays.
*Bears over the Rams
49ers beat high powered offense of the Broncos.

13 out of 15 correct week 15(three games remaining)

Pats are back in first place, but it is questionable how much longer we can stay atop the division. Both the phins and the Jets have easy schedules remaining while the beloved Pats have three solid teams left in Jacksonville, the Steelers, and Miami away. We need two wins to get in. This weeks will be the toughest of the three and could be a big loss. Unbeaten at home, the Jaguars can be vulnerable but they are vying for a playoff spot too so expect them to show up lusting blood.

Oilers over Bengals
Bills over Bears
**Steelers over Broncos who will falter at the end of the season again.
Buccanneers over da brat Pack. Alstott is the man. He has churning and unstoppable wheels.
Jaguars over the Pats but the pats beat the spread unless the team that faced and lost to the bengals shows up.
Giants beat rival eagles could go either way though
Chiefs roll over Bugle's Raiders sealing his pink slip at the end of the season.
Rams over the who-care's-about-Saints
Ravens outbird the Seahawks at Home.
Falcons over the out of power chargers
Jets beat the dolts senseless.
49ers crush the QB-less vikes
**Redskins stun superior Cardinals
**Lions beat Miami because of the greatest HB ever, Barry Sanders
Cowboys over the poor panthers

Pats are rolling back, but then again they just have the Bills number. Tampa Bay will be the proving/stomping ground. We can do it and the team is functioning as one once again. I love the pressure Carroll is putting on the individuals to perform. There is no question that we have the talent to win the AFC east division and a whole lot more. Lets pray on Sunday at da Bay. 11-12-97

WEEK 12 PICKS

*=possible upsets
Giants
Rams
STEELERS
Broncos, But I really do think that the Chiefs can pull out a major upset here
Packers
Jaguars
Vikings
Patriots*
Eagles*
Seahawks
Comboys*
49ers
Jets
Raiders*
Dolphins

Okay, so it's midseason for the Pats and they have 6 of their last 8 games against teams that are either 6-2 or 5-3. We have a tough schedule, but a lot of teams including the pats are overrated so don't worry too much about team brand names.

Pats are on a landslide. You don't see me sweating. Martin is just starting to heat up. Expect him to explode in the weeks ahead. Our wide receivers are making the big catches too.

WEEK 11 Picks--11 out of 15

Cowboys Vikings Colts Redskins Chiefs Jets Packers Bucs Broncos Patriots Raiders Oilers Seahawks Steelers 49ers

WEEK 10 Picks 7 of 14 right

49ers over Da BOys--Aikmans a bit woozy.

Pats over the VIKES who are totally overachieving. Bye cinderella.

Seahawks ride Warren's arm for 2nd week in win over Broncos(I can dream can't I?)

Packers over Lions

Jags over oilers

Dolphins over bills. Phins pissed after chicago game.

Up and coming jets over halloween ravens

Raiders could just surprise far superior panthers if defense can hold.

Eagles over Cards. Plummer with 2 ints

Skins over bears. No two in a row.

Chargers over Bengals. Boring.

Is Harbaugh not playing? GOOD. Justin pulls out Colts first win.

Falcons win #2 against Rams

Chiefs win with Rison. Steelers' Stewart gets nothing.

Okay so let's have a show of hands who think that Pete Carroll blew this one for us against Green Bay. PC needs to screw his head on straight. WE were not prepared with such a shitty game plan. What happened to running Curtis Martin up the wazoo? He is after all the top three RB in the AFC. GB and Denver have suspect running defenses that we could not expoit and that is what is killing me. Minnesota is a must win at Viking Land. Tough tough game. I'm a little worried. As of right now it looks to be a 10-6 or 9-7 season. Can't you see the bandwagon unloading already? We just can't win the big games as has been said over and over again. Yikes, 5-13 on my picks. Good thing I don't have money to gamble. 10-28-97

So maybe Parcells is a genius of a coach. In fact, I have faith that had he stayed in NE, we would be Super Bowl Champs for at least 3 of the next 5 years. My boy Jefferson made that catch in the Jets game. You could tell just by how irate he was. I loved his attitude even though he will probably be fined pretty hard for his tirade on the field. --10/20/97

My picks of the week for week 9 are the following:

-Bucs over the Vikings: Dunn is gonna have a 160yd rushing day

-Jaguars over the Steelers by 14 points. Stewart scrambles. Nothing.

Broncos over the bills by 17 points

Raiders continue over the Seahawks by a fieldgoal.

Redskins beat those ravens

chiefs over rams by 7

Dolphins over bears by 14

Cardinals continue on rookie arm over oilers

Giants beat striped tigers

niners roll over saints

Colts finally win one over the chargers

Panthers over falcons

and last but certainly not least, Patriots show that they can win the big games on Monday nite as they hand over a big time win over the packers by 14 points.
