Mila had this idea last year pa, about a golden buking page. Dapat daw sasabihin mo what you did on your 50th birthday, tapos magbibigay ka pa ng picture, preferably taken on that day, too. Walang pumatol nung 1998.
Dear Ataboy,
I am going to concretize
Mila's idea about a golden buking page.
I'm fifty. And I've known
you guys through all of my adolescent and adult life. Isn't that incredible?
Originally, I was scheduled
to go home to Cabanatuan. Traditionally, I honor the parents who made me
possible.
But the Philippine Computer
Society lined up 2 activities on January 14 that I did not want to miss,
so I decided last Tuesday to postpone the trip home to Friday. I did call
Cabanatuan to tell them so.
Jan 14, I woke up early
at 5 am (slept in my bedroom for the first time since August). Pagbaba
ko, may Cosmopolitan magazine na sa dining table (binili ni Ojie), so I
checked out my horoscope and leafed through the magazine while I ate spaghetti
for breakfast.
I wore my lucky Laura Ashley
summer dress (mana kay Evie) and woke up Ojie nang ready na ako lumabas.
We left the house for Makati
at 8 am and there was no heavy traffic so we were just in time for the
lecture of Dr. Richard Eckhouse, Prof of Math and Comp Sc at Univ of Mass
Boston (hindi siguro ito ang alma mater ni Delay) at AIM. Okay! There was
one thing he said that struck me, about intelligent people who had no sense
of history, they were reinventing what had ben done before.
He talked about the IEEE
Computer Society as well as covered the original topic of Managing Technology.
The PCS board should have been present! We had a picture taken with him,
so I will upload that as soon as I get a print. We dropped by the office
of Felix on the second floor, but he was not there.
We had lunch at Luk Yuen.
Sabi nga noon ni Vergel, iyon ang kainan pag day before payday. True enough,
puno nga siya by luchtime, but we were early at 11:20 am. I had my favorite
lapu-lapu with ampalaya toppings and steamed pork siomai (naku, magugutom
ka na naman!) while Ojie had halo-halo lugao which was so filling kaya
ipinabalot na lang ang siopao niya.
We walked through Greenbelt
and dropped by the exhibit of B/W photos at the gallery of Ayala Museum.
Then to Landmark for shopping
of what the doctor said I should now use in lieu of the binder. Freedom!
Shangri-La at 2 pm for the
CIO Forum on Electronic Commerce (so that's the state of technology halfway
in my life!)
I saw a lot of my friends
from the PCS in this event, at siempre, masayang kuwentuhan while waiting
for the function room door to be opened, as well as sa food queue during
the break. The president of the Philippine Internet Commerce Society (which
I intend to join, di ba nga?) was one of the speakers. Very comprehensive
ang discussion nung mga Singaporeans about e-commerce and they even demoed
finger scan validation. I told the organizers that it was a very worthy
afternoon, indeed.
Nakakatuwa, they gave us
giveaways pa. Yung inflatable plastic couch that claims that with Novell,
you can lean back and relax (something to that effect).
We walked to Powerbooks
at 5 pm (Kaya pa naman!) and attended the postcard launch of 'Jewels of
the Philippines'. Nagpa-autograph kay Chin Chin Gutierrez. Dumating pa
si Martin Nievera (ang guwapo pala, kung ako si Pops, I will rethink letting
him go!) Nag-cocktails na rin kami doon.
May Gershwin concert sa
Francisco Santiago Hall. Sige, lakad, titingnan kung may tickets pa. Ay,
wala na raw, titingnan pa kung mag-SRO (Hindi ko kayang tumayo throughout).
In any case, hindi namin afford ang P400 pala na tickets!
Umuwi na kami. Tamang-tama
lang sa phone call ng Tatay at saka ni Ed.
Spaghetti pa uli, saka siopao
sa bahay.
Ojie gave a blowjob to one
of the inflatable couches. (We had one each kasi ni-register ko siya
sa PCS na brother-escort, taga-akay.) Sabi ko relax lang siya because there's
plenty of time till my birth hour of 11:30 pm, na lagi kong hinihintay
bago matulog on Jan 14.
We had fun trying out the
couch at various stages of inflation(?) or should I say being inflated?
The best was when it was fully inflated and with a blanket thrown over
it!
Tamang-tama lang ang call
mo at 11, was it?
I wore the 'golden duster'
that Mila sent when I slept after 11:30 pm.
It was a pure gold birthday!
Sincerely,
Urbs

(the better use of the bubble chair is to lie down in bed and put your
feet up its seat, but don't expect me to upload my picture in that
pose)
On second thought, this is decent enough, so there!

Dear Ana B:
Wow naman, nagkatotoo na ang pangarap ko through your account. Pero
kulang
pa -- di ba dapat may birthday picture taken on that day -- dapat noong
suot mo yung golden duster!!!
Did you receive my birthday greetings sent at 4:00 a.m (Manila time) Jan 14?
Please reply,
Mila
Pa-buking na rin kayo. Tutal mas bata nga tayo sa kanila!
