EQ's called before he left with Jerry and Erap for Japan.
He said he'll write his version of the mini-reunions when he gets back.
Binibigyan na kayo ng partida :-) Baka hindi na kayo makasingit
pag
nagumpisa na siya.

Subject: EQ's continuing
saga
Dear Manny,
Just to let you know that EQ finally called at about 5:45 am on a Sunday
Morning!!!! We had a nice talk, but I really don't remember much, except
that I got gas pains, and couldn't get back to sleep.
Unfortunately, it doesn't look possible that we will be able to see
him
here in the US. I am sure Fred now knows this... as EQ mentioned
that
he would call him up. So we will have to do it some other time.
I hope
that Perry and the LA group will have better luck...
However, and I do not know why, but with EQ as is with all the Prepians
of our class that I have seen again, I always get the feeling that
we
just saw each other yesterday in terms of warmth and friendship.
I do
know that I cherish the feeling.
Take care,
Butch

saga?)
Hi Manny and all!
Perry and I have been in contact with each other before EQ's SoCal
visit
and, after a few minor glitches (schedules, wrong phone #'s),
we were
finally able to get a hold of him.
On Tuesday, 5/26, EQ phoned me around 2:00 p.m. from his aunt and
uncle's home in San Diego and we arranged to meet there that evening.
I
brought along my daughter Angela and her best friend Rachel.
We rang
the doorbell, and after several more rings and knocks, when nobody
came
to the door, decided to walk around to the backyard where there
were
people talking. Not knowing anyone there, I just said hello.
Then I heard, "O si Edna." It was EQ. I did not recognize
him only
because the person I was expecting to see was the EQ of 30+ plus years
ago. Remember that the last time I saw EQ was in h.s.
We talked for
about 3-1/2 hours about h.s., the goings-on of prepians here and abroad,
the meetings that you guys have once a month, and of course our
big
reunion in 2000.
Butch talks about that wonderful feeling he gets when he talks to h.s.
friends. I must say that I felt the same way when talking to
EQ, and
I'm pretty sure that Larry, Reno, Perry, and others must have had
similar feelings too. Even though we were not in the same
group back
then, I believe that there is a bond among us, our batch being composed
of a small, selected group and "confined" in the 3rd floor of
that
building (I forgot the name of that building).
Before we left that evening, EQ called Perry and they decided
to meet
either Wednesday p.m. or Thursday a.m. Perry will surely let
you guys
know about their day.
By the way, we took a couple of pictures and will send you guys a copy
thru the courtesy of Perry's website (thanks Perry) as soon as
possible
(i.e., only if I look ok in the pictures).
Warm regards to you all and see you in 2000.
Edna

Way to go, Edna. The saga continues. Yes, I had that feeling too, that
EQ and I were not apart for 33 years. I guess that's why he is
where
he's at right now, he's always been personable and has excellent people
skills, not to mention a very good memory. Perry, let us know what
happened ASAP>
See you all Y2000.

Pare, how are things? Did you get together with EQ? When will
you
broadcast LA Patrol Episode EQ?
Tell us about it, OK?
I also mailed you our first year UP Prep class photo I copied via
Kinko's. I sent it to this address. Let me know kung mali ang pinadalhan
ko, para maremedyohan, ( ang hirap talaga sumulat ng Tagalog!).
2357 Bullard Avenue, LA, CAL 90032. Tama ba?
Regards.
Wish me luck- I got a charity golf tournament to raise funds for B.C.
Children's Hospital. I hope I can represent Yamaha with a decent
score. Take Care and regards to the brood. By the way,
I guess Bob
Sayson's reunion is up in the air?

Hello!!!! Hello!!! Reno,
I was just about to write you tonight and lo and behold
you have
already written me. The address is correct. Thank you pare. I already
tried to write you the night after EQ left for RP. But somehow, this
hotmail crap that I am trying to take advantage of didnt want to send
nor was it allowing me to save my draft. It gave me options to refresh
or restart. So, guess what? Everything I wrote vanished. So medyo
tinamad ako ng kaunti but you know that being with EQ makes the
experience vivid for a long time.
First thing first, Good Luck on your charity golf tournament.
Children are always a good cause. One day you will have to play with
me
on the course. (Aside from the fishing trip we will take) Because as
of
yet, I only have time to go to the driving range and practice for
distance control and direction. I have yet to play on a course.
Reunion in Oregon appears to be shelved right now since
everyone
seems to be gearing for the reunion next year. Its a pity. Oregon is
really lovely this time of the year. Why dont we two plan it after
the
y2k and see who we will come up with. Okey?
EQ and I spent about six hours altogether. As agreed,
I got "sick"
that Thursday to be able to spend time with him and also meet his
family. 12:00 noon at Macy's mens department in one of the malls. After
about 40 minutes he calls out to me from about 50 feet. He was wearing
a
blue reverse, Roots cap. (Very popular in Canada) I am amazed at how
little he has changed
except of course, he was older but not at all looking fifty. I guess
had
he taken his hat off which he didnt the whole time we were together
and
even inside the house, I would attribute a slight addition to his age.
But I already saw him in the Manila pictures without the hat and he
looks younger in person right now. Maybe the "gall of the bladder"
made
him look older. As
with you, I was really very happy to see him.
Since the rest of the Pablo family was set to shop at
the mall, I
invited him to lunch at Redondo Beach pier, not knowing that he has
not
been there at all, after all this time he has been coming to the US.
15
minute drive and we were there. I asked him about the eating
restrictions remembering your story that he takes a pill first before
eating. He said only with chinese food.
So for the three of us, I ordered 4 huge Dungeness crabs
filled with
"aligi", six half shell raw Baja oysters, six Eastern oysters, six
raw
clams, two orders of steamed rice, one order of spanish rice, six pieces
of tempura shrimps, one order of onion rings, lemons, butter, two corona
beers, one soda, tapatio hot sauce, at tatlong pamukpuk ng sipit.
I have tasted all these food before, but strange as it
may seem, it
was tastier and less filling when eaten with good company. I was asking
him how everybody was and if he knows where the others are, what
happened to whom and I told him about what I have learned from our
August 98 reunion. With all the stories, laughter, amazement, surprises
and plans, we could have continously eaten up to six o'clock had we
brought with us 4 more additional stomachs. We were so full, (with
all
the bawal kainin) even with the nice sunshine, we were all slightly
shivering cuz all the heat went to our stomachs for digestion.
We walked toward another restaurant at the pier and this
time it was
inside. We ordered liguored coffee to warm us up. The stories continued
till it was already 5:30. We were suppose to meet Clem and the
kids at
six! We drove off for the mall. As we neared the mall, EQ spotted
a
super Crown Bookstore which he immediately asked if we could just look
for a "few
minutes". This was five minutes to six. Thirty minutes and about
a
dozen books bought later, we were on our way. The man loves books and
Crown is his turf. As I go wacko in a woodworking store, his is a
bookstore. We meet his two lovely ladies, wife Clem and 8 yr old Lia
and
then again Joau (Portuguese for "John") which we meet earlier that
day
and two nephews and
EQ's aunt. Clem said that they were done shopping and will now go home
but it was EQs turn to shop. I will just take EQ home.
We walked the
entire mall looking at sports gears, golf gears, eye wears, sale
stuffs, pasalubongs. We tried to look for the shoe style that Larry
showed him in Toronto but didnt buy thinking that it might be cheaper
in
the US. Wrong. There is no style like that in the US. We looked in
all
the high end shoe stores, Florsheim, Johnston and Murphy, Bostonians,
etc. nothing. So he made me promise to tell Larry to bring the
shoes in
the reunion. Ecco, that style that you told him, size 10. So Larry!
My
mission is accomplished. I already told you.
He regrets not being able to see Ixie and Norma
while he was here
but hopes that they make it at our 2000 reunion.
Once again, a part of me that was lost a long time
ago is found and
each time this happens to me, I am a happier man.
Do well in the tournament, my friend. All the best
to your family.
Take care always.
Perry

Subject: Vancouver Visit
Hello, EQ and brood. Hope you had a memorable stay in Vancouver. I wish
we had more time. Before I forget, please note my typo error when I
wrote my e-mail broadcast about your visit. I wrote " I bought you
something truly Canadian - ROOTS" actually I meant you did or meant
to
say " he bought". Sorry about that little confusion.
I did not forget your requests while you were here. I checked on Simon
Fraser U, University of BC and Langara College ( known for journalism).
All of them have websites and easy to search. I think this way, you
can
find out as much as you want. Just call me or write if you need more
info or you want something verified.
The golf season is peaking in Vancouver now. The Canadian tour
is under
way, and last weekend, BC Tel Open was great - held at Mayfair Lakes
(one of my favorite courses). A couple more months and it's Air
Canada
Open (PGA)- a few big names will be here to compete. Hope you
can come
back for these tournaments this year. Of course, there's always next
year. Can you get Ray Dan to join you?
Write me back OK? Take Care and regards to Clem and family. Cant
wait
to
hear your comments on your trailblazing mini reunions.
