West Coast Chapter formed!
Daddie responded to a short note I sent last week about
our planned trip to
Anaheim and LA. Just want to share her response.
I'm now excited about our
mini-reunion. We'll probably end up sharing a lot
of stories covering three
decades +. And we'll try to contact other classmates,
even just by e-mail
or phone.
Ano ang bilin mo sa amin from LA? As for contributions,
of course, I'll do
some arm-twisting -- but gently -- for contributions
-- and yes, photos!
til next mail.
Regards,
Mila

HI Mila, of course we'll be here and I'll be looking forward
to seeing you.
and Franklin kaya
medyo bitin ang LA Prep Reunion but your visit will give
us good reason for a
salo-salo, I better get started with this... Aida
lives right around Anaheim,
I'm about 40 short minutes away but I spend a lot of
time in that area cuz we
have family and friends in Orange County where Anaheim
is. I think, I'll have
tickets for you to Knotts Berry Farm (I'll try to jack
my daughter's Disney
tickets for you (she used to work for them). I
'll host a barbeque here at
home for you guys, just let us know what your itinerary
is. My classmate from
UP Coll of Nursing is also going to be here from May
31 to June 3 attending a
Critical Care Seminar and the last time she was here,
she was in Anaheim also.
She'll be staying with me for the weekend so sabay sabay
na tayong mag
sosyalan.
This is exciting, nasaan ba si Suzette, nagkita kita ang
mga UP Hi '69 kailan
lang, we didn't know she's around... Noel is one of the
LA coordinators for
their class although I thought Noel sends her regular
bulletins since you gave
us her address. Anyway, give me a telephone number
or an address, and if you
need airport pick-up, puede rin maarrange 'yan... Hi
to Hermie and the
kids....

Hi Mila, got your email re your schedule here in L.A.
Since you'll be rounding
off with your business meeting by Sunday 5/31/98 noon,
let's start early
afternoon (say 2 pm?) and see where it takes us.
Then you'll be free to
establish contacts the following week before you fly
out Saturday. I still
have your Knotts tickets and you can pick a day that
following week to use
'em.
Am copying Ceso, Edith and Poteet although for your info,
Edith's address
sounds like she could be 6-8 hours away from L.A. but
then again we never know
if Edith might have some trip to make here to L.A. then
it might as well be
when we all get together (right, Ed?). Although
I remember hearing that
Poteet is in the San Fernando Valley somewhere, or was
that Res Sulit? For
Edith and Poteet's benefit, Mila and Hermie are coming
to town and I'm hosting
a little barbeque and we're rounding up everyone in the
area so if you know of
anyone around here, please give them a call and let's
have them over.
Families are invited... Ceso, this is your cue
to make those phone calls.
We'll have barbeque and fun, for those who have kids,
we can have Ferdie
Torralba and my hubby Noel (hindi pa nila alam eto) put
together an impromptu
kids talent show (song, music, dance...), the adults
can arrange to chat with
Ana B online, we'll have pictures sent out on the net
- either scan prints or
via a digital cam (mababa nga lang ang resolution but
it'll be like being with
the online classmates), of course Mila will have some
airtime for her platform
(kung ano man yon).
Ed, Poteet pls send your snail mail address and telephone, thanks...
Should you have some alternative date in mind, pls return
mail right away so
we can adjustMy address and telephone numbers are:
Looking forward to see one and all!

Hi, all,
Edith here. Yes, I'm 6-8 hrs away. Would love to join
you, but am not
familiar at all w/ LA area. Daddie, is your place anywhere
near the
airport? Can you recommend an accessible, safe &
inexpensive place to stay?
Edith.

Ano - long time no hear. Thanks for your email.
Actually as soon as I got
Mila's email re her schedule to LA - I replied back inquiring
if she cannot
will be there a very short time - so baka kako makapag-schedule
ako ng trip
to LA). Kaso may meeting palang I-a-attend si Mila
- so obviously
re-scheduling is out of the question.
Actually, I used to live in San Fdo. Valley - but that
was until 1990. In
1991 we moved to Las Vegas because of a job offer.
So we've been here
since then. Ressie Sulit-Abadiano is still in San
Fdo. But I don't have
her phone or email.
I cannot commit if I can make it for this get-together
- altho' sayang
sana. I'll let you guys know.
It's good to hear from you again.
Potit
- - - - - - - - - -
Hi there Poteet!
Tsk tsk tsk ... too bad you'll miss the BBQ but we can
arrange to get together
when Delay comes to town also - we can do lunch somewhere
in China Town or do
Kamayan in Glendale di ba? How about that?
Delay, let us know what your
schedule is so we can announce it at the barbeque and
do a survey of those who
can make it. It would be nice if Mila and Delay
can be here together but we
all have our schedules ... I understand Ruth
Monserrate ---- is also
planning to come to L.A. I'll let you all know
when as soon as we hear about
it. Just talked to Ferddie Torralba, he'll
be bringing his family - May and
their 7 or so yr old girl Megan. Called Aida just
now and she says she'll be
here too and will convince Pat Mangonon to stick around
until then. Franklin
and Pat are somewhere in Arizona if not the East Coast,
Franklin has to fly
back by the 14th of May or so (election time and he wants
to be sure he'll
have a slot to come home to).
I have no idea how to get hold of Res Sulit but if you
hear anything pls let
me know.
Edith, the Burbank airport is a mere 10 mi away and they have flights coming in from your area all times of the day, I can arrange for pick up and if you don't mind using my living room pull out bed, then you're set. If its hard for you to get a flight out to Burbank, LAX is only 25 mi away and we can also pick you up from there.
I know this is still a month away but let's just mark
our calendars and make it happen ....
I'll catch you later then!

I tried doing research on Res Sulit-Abadania and Willie

info didn't yield anything - but of course we can do
an internet search and
snail mail them if we get their addresses. I've
had contact with Willie
before but I don't have his or his sister Nora's numbers
anymore (Nora also
worked for Bank of America - she was last here at a BofA

Hamo at we have a little more time... we're gonna get
them. To date, we have
Ferdie, Aida, Edith (flying in from Stanford), Ceso (he's
assigned to get 3-4
others). Nasaan 'ka n'yo si Sixto? SFO?
Ana B, dahil sa 'yo paliliparin na

i-host naman ni Ferdie

broadcast it to all the class and for as long as they
have business to do in
LA around that time, they should be here ... we can of
course plan for a big

Eds, your Saturday to Monday schedule sounds great - i
could always schedule
June 1 as a work from home day .... or I cud just take

Ruth M just emailed her phone # and I'll talk to her in

late na kasi), she's in Tustin which is a few minutes
from Aida C, I could
drop in on them sometime this weekend. She regrets
though she'll be somewhere

I'll snail mail Sixto S in SFO and see

Hi Ana and Everybody,
What ever happened to the plan of having a '98 Reunion as announced in our Web Page?
Then we can have one real big reunion and not mini-ones.
And Jojo won't feel
'slighted' :-)
for not being invited.
Lets go for that reunion!!!

Hi Jojo!
Of course you're invited to our barbeque, in fact, kung
gusto mo share kayo ni
Edith sa Sala namin - isa sa inyo may pull out bed, isa
sa love seat!
Actually, kausap ko na si Kariz (my daughter) kung my
spill overs, sa apt
niya! That will be great if u could come - see
if you could get a flight into
Burbank airport although LAX is also fine ... pinag-uusapan
ka lang namin ni
Ruth Monserrate - Villareal this evening , she made us
some Mexican Lunch and
we took her to the Redondo Beach king Harbor for some
clam chowder, fish and
chips - takot kaming mag-asawa sa crustaceans kaya nauwi
kami sa isda on
concrete tables lined with newspapers ...
Let me know your flight details and one of us will be
there to pick u up. Eds
is flying in Saturday pm 5/30, spend 2 nites here and
fly back Monday evening
...
It's going to be fun!
I'm sending some of our pictures from this afternoon
to Ana B. for
"distribution"
Catch you later then!

Dear Classmates ...
I just sent Jojo my friend, a personal invite to our barbeque
May 31 - I
thought I'd ask the L.A. folks to welcome Mila and Hermie
while they were
around, of course anyone else who could be in town are
invited to come. I
think it's simply exciting ... must be my finite mind
... I didn't think of
asking my friend from Illinois to come and spend a week-end
with us here!
Elmer, To answer your question about whatever happened
to our North American
reunion? I responded to the webpage ad choosing
a spot somewhere in the East
Coast but Mila said there was not much of a response
to that so when she said
she was coming to L.A. I thought a mini reunion would
be terrific... imagine,
Edith is flying over, now Jojo will be too! A North
American reunion will
definitely be on the agenda at this barbeque ...

Reunion
with Ruth Monserrate-Villareal
Daddie Albaladejo-Matic and
Ruth Monserrate-Villareal in Redondo Beach
Date: Sun, 3 May 1998 03:02:55 EDT
Subject: Saturday afternoon delight....
Kumusta kayong lahat ...
Attached is photo taken this
evening at the Redondo Beach King Harbor
ebidensiya nang aming mini-reunion
ni Ruth M-Villareal. We picked a huge rock
cod fried crisp, bathed in
lemon and had sides of clam chowder served in a
sour dough bowl, corn on
the cob, veggies, rice, fries. We were in the fish
market on concrete seats
and tables lined with newspapers. It was a first
for all of us. Sabi
ni Ruth kabibili lang daw nila nang lobsters which she
was looking forward to at
lunch tomorrow, I offered to get her some shrimps
but she declined (allergic
kaming mag-asawa to most crustaceans) but the fish
was great! By the way,
the petite one with the winning smile is Ruth...
We were at the Lozanos' (Ruth's
sister Joji's family) where we met Raynel (?)
na carbon copy nang kanyang
mommy noong high school ... by 2:18 piyem. Niyaya
ang kanyang Mexican cuisine (Ruth was assisted by
Joji in the preparations).
We had Tamales with beef filling, salsa verde,
fresh tomato salsa w/ cilantro
and some freshly whipped cream, some chips ...
ang say nang malalaking bisita
"Muy sabroso!" This was followed by huge and
juicy fresh strawberries.
We drove to Redondo beach
by 5 piyem after much kwento and had a nice stroll
on the boardwalk, by the
marina (may mga "resident" na nag barbeque right on
the marina next to their
boat!), I guess folks are starting to get hyped up
for the Mexican - Cinco de
Mayo festivities. We checked out some harbor
fishing action, the mackerel
and king fish were biting, the sea gulls were
waiting to scavenge and the
air was downright fishy! It was great!
we talked about all of you
who were not there and decided we were both so very
proud to be one of you, ganoon
Noel took us to the pearl
booth and bought us souvenirs - Noel picked an
oyster with a pinkish 6 mm
pearl for me and Ruth picked out her own oyster
which yielded a 6.3 mm white
pearl. Sabi namin ipapaset namin na pendant para
sa mga bunso namin...
Medyo umambon nang kaunti
at gininaw ang mga turista... back to Tustin (we
logged 42 mi one way from
Redondo) and said our "Au revoirs" by 9 piyem. By
the time we hit Norwalk,
Noel was almost snoring in the driver's seat so nag
volunteer naman ako kay mahal
na mag relieve sa wheel. Back to L.A. by 10 and
checked my mail. Our
PC crashed yesterday (our 15 yr old was downloading
stuff from the web and wiped
out mucho files) - didn't get the reactions to
the "mini reunion deal" till
today. I know you forgive me Jo....
Like I said anyone and everyone is invited to L.A. on May 31 ... see you then!

Hi there Ed! Good to hear you and Dennis are coming.
Kailangan ba ninyo nang
sundo? Please let me know, although kung mag-re-rent-a-car
kayo okay rin yun
for your Monday happenings (kung ano man 'yon).
Kung okay sa mga dayo, puede
tayong pumunta sa Knotts Berry Farm - only cuz I have
a few (6) tickets we cud
share around (taken na yung dalawa for Mila and Hermie).
I can take 4
passengers in the car. Sayang at wasted na yung
aming 7-seater van (died of
old age).
For lodging, I could book you at the Kariz Matic
Motel 3 blocks away from my
can spare my grand
daughter's bedroom kasi nasa bahay ng ama kapag week-ends
yung bata (buhay
with a trundle (sino sa baba?)
Ayway, I got on the phone with Ferdie T today and he's
all excited. I have to
touch bases with Ceso - hindi pa nag-co-confirm and I
seem to have lost his
phone number. I'll be picking up Edith at the airport
on Saturday evening
too. Then of course Aida Caballes and Willie Tenorio
will be here too... Do

Talagang surprising ka nga! Akala ko mabilis na

I just hope na ma-encourage

isa pang mini reunion
dito sa bahay ngayong gabi. Pat and Franklin are
currently being hosted by
Aida Caballes in Fullerton. They'll be coming for
dinner. I learned on
Monday 5/18 they were flying in the following day but
I had a meeting in the
morning and was driving out to las Vegas early afternoon.
I offered to take
them to Las Vegas with me but they had a tight schedule
... so I spent Tuesday
nite and all of Wednesday in Las Vegas - Noel was attending
a convention while
I checked out the library and a movie (of all things
nakalimutan ko territoryo
nga pala ni Poteet ang Vegas!), of course I had to feed
a one armed bandit for
about 20 minutes or so while waiting to pick him up for
lunch and dinner. Got
back at 1 am yesterday Thursday. Talked
to Frank and they'll definitely be
here tonite. Magdadala daw nang halaya si Willie
at baka magluto si Ceso nang
Pancit, I asked Ferdie to bring the laughs, I'll
pick a place where I can get
"to go" stuff... natural, our digital cam will
be in action to shoot you a
few pics pronto! Abangan... Frank and Pat
will do a little video to address
the folks that they will miss on the 31st... sweet ba?
Rea and Dennis from
Vancouver, Aida, Ceso, Ferdie, Willie et Moi will be
the LA hosts.
son is having a
birthday), Sixto Salumbides is moving house that week-end
and he lives all the
way up north. Hindi ko pa nababalitaan si Jojo
S, Tan but I will be greatly
honored if she will make her way to L.A. Nakakaexcite
talaga!
Still at large are Baldomero Dequina, Albert Zaporteza,
Hector Reyes, Walter
de Santos and Res Sulit - nobody has their telephone
numbers!
Ciao!

Subject: The LA tease .. Gotta Come!
Hi Jo,
Nice to hear from you finally! Am attaching a pic
from last nite, care to
guess who everybody is? Let me just give you names
and you figure out who
they are/were .... Pat Pascual and Franklin Mangonon
were brought in by Aida
Caballes, Willie Tenorio, Ferdie Torralba, Ceso Balauag
and moi started at
about 7:30 piyem (all 7 in the picture) ... we were later
joined by Albert
Zaporteza and Hector Reyes .
it was loads of fun!!! Ferdie (works for the Post Office)
and wife May (NICU
RN) provided comic relief (matagal na raw gusto isauli
ni May si Ferdie sa
nanay niya ayaw daw tanggapin!) , Willie and wife Ging,
both IS afficionados
brought some authentic halaya and crema de fruta (their
daughter Carissa, 4
and Ferdie's Kristina, 7 exchanged phone numbers
and were wide awake at
midnight), Ceso who's also into IS brought some
real mean chow mein - he'll
be bringing more next time, Albert (another IS guy) and
Hector (contractor,
starting stone veneer mfg in PI) came around 9 and brought
the DOM perspective
to light - in sober tones though, I could tell they are
closet family men,
time to come out, I asked them to bring their families
to the barbeque!
Albert kept shaking his head, grinning and muttering
"33 years! 33 years!"
I didn't realize it's been that long. My son Matthew
thought Hector wasn't
even 40 and I'll have to say he looks real hip!
happening sa Manila, we were trying to figure out kung
sino pa ang "amoy lupa"
sa batch (Thank Dexter for that!). Franklin was
just beaming to see his high
school buddies but for a little while recalled how Albert
and Hector's group
would lock him out of the homeroom during breaks!
Mahal was busy putting our pictures together, he thought
it was real cute that
both Ferdie and Hector still had copies of our annual
where he lifted the
before pictures.
(sent both sets of
pics to Anna for the Web, may hard copy yung guests of
honor).
You have my blessings in joining Gemma's UP Hi group,
I've been to a few of
Noel's UP Hi reunions (SFO, DC and Manila), they're actually
half way decent!
Joke lang yon ha... they're a warm bunch!
The group had a chat with Sixto Salumbides (cc'd - Ana
pls add his email add
to ur list) on the phone, he won't make it on the 31st
either but sounded very
envious. Pat noted the group's schedule for Manila
visits (social calendar
now booked through December).
So the short of it is .... "It was a BLAST", "GOTTA COME"
Daddie
Guess who?

It was a
Blast, truly worth reminiscing the past and finding out
what other
classmates had become.
I am a bit guilty for not corresponding for the past so
many years but
then again, I hope it is not too late to re-start ...
I will be making
use of this Internet/E-mail technology to the fullest
from now on.

Hi Albert,
How nice of you to write me such a pleasant note!
And of course, your
message belongs not just to me but to everyone in our
class who has kept the
Prep 65 spirit alive -- especially Ana B, who would be
very happy to hear
from you. So I'm forwarding your note to her to
include this on our site,
so all our classmates can share the news about you and
your family. I'm
sure some will get in touch with you right away.
Thanks for connecting. Our webpage is just as much
yours as it is ours, so
pass on whatever news you want to share, and of course,
PHOTOS so we can get
to see you and your family.
Hope to see you in LA for the May 31st mini-reunion --
the second feat of
the LA gang.
Regards,
Mila

May 30, 1998
11:30 a.m., Daddie picks up her UP College of Nursing
classmate Minna
Guerrero-Magyawe at the LAX,
6:00 p.m., Ceso picks up the Vancouver boys (Ed and Dennis) from LAX
6:30 p.m., Daddie does a welcome wave from 200 feet to
Edith at the Burbank
airport ("gosh, you're so easy to spot, you haven't changed"
- joke namin sa
isa't isa)
biglang nag-
accomodate nang 9 - Mila & Hermie, Ceso, Dennis,
Edith, Noel & Daddie Matic
Not 1 mile
from our place just
before picking up the Garcias, Ed took some LA driving
lessons ... "Always
keep to the right of the yellow line in the middle of
the road!" ... and off
to MAX we went...
8:00 p.m., chibog, chismis, pictures (We all have yet
to view the pictures
sent out to you by Noel) ... ninerbiyos ang Dennis baka
raw yung left over
chicken, crispy pata and bulalo ang ipaalmusal namin
sa kanila kaya
nakipagdate kay Ed and Edith to do IHOP for breakfast.
I can't remember how
our conversation went to smoking but Dennis aired some
gripe about girlfriends
who smoked ... we didn't press for details.
10:30 p.m., after dinner, nagyayang mag coffee, balik-bahay
ang tropa at nag
brew nang maraming coffee, tuloy ang chismis. Ina-assign
"whereas the party of the first part ..." the prospect
is very intriguing.
drove the three blocks to Kariz Matic's place.
at ihanda ang coffee tray for the next event, natulog
din ang Edith and
Daddie.
May 31, 1998
... gutom daw pala
talaga ang Edith, sabi ni Ed. Sabi naman
ni Edith, natagalan sila kasi
namili pa nang libro si Dennis. Nagdala nang smoked
salmon from Canada ang Ed
padala raw ni Bebeth, at together, may boteng dala yung
dalawa (wala namang
umiinom dito!).
Geraniums sa pinsan ni Mila, and we were back in no time.
May dalang Secord
crispy well done ang
unang batch nang ribs thanks to Mr de la Rea, but the
succeeding batches were
quite delightful! lalo na yung grilled veggies
(asparagus, zucchini, talong,
naka sombrero - may
ang dala!, then came Hector Reyes with pancit palabok
- galing pa raw nang
Palm Springs at dumating pala ang sister galing Manila...
Binuksan ulit ang
yearbook ... dadating si Res Sulit (remember her?),
si Walter de Santos,
binigyan ni Albert nang directions pero malabo.
We ate under the Oak tree,
chairs in a circle, cameras clicked and laughter flowed
....
pumasok nang yard, her face was beet red, sun burnt to
almost a crisp, she
named us all except ... "kaklase ba natin to?"
Hector Reyes?" Hindi
raw at kilala niya lahat yung pinangalanan. We
tried to tell her it was
Hector but she insisted ... hindi ka si Hector, singkit
'yun!
Res was a riot! Tinanong ang Edith, "nasaan ang
husband mo?" "Wala, ex na
siya!" sagot nang Res "give me 5 Edith!" sabay
tanong kay Ceso, "Ikaw, may
asawa ka na ba?" "Isa pa lang!" ... Ang sabi
niya kay Ferdie "pinsan ka ni
Efren!"
7:30 p.m., tuloy ang ligaya, picture-ran ulit, sabi
ko kay Ed sa telephone, I
remember you, matangkad ka at malaki ang mata mo! (soulful
the rest of him
caught up in dimension! Counter naman niya "This
is no flattery but I've gone
over the pictures on the web and you ladies (Edith, Mila,
Res et moi) look
great!" ... Really, he's just saying that because its
true!
9:00 p.m., Hermie and Mila get on their soapbox and showed
the group a little
video and a spill on an American opportunity adventure
in the pursuit of one's
dreams.... warm ang response! May mga giveaway
ballpens pa at pins! Napaka
transparent nang enthusiasm ni Mila and it's just hard
not to be bouyed up by
that!
nangyari. Pretty soon, labas ang Hector at pagbalik
eh may salsa music na
dala ... He's the perfect D.I. magaling at saka
libre! Nagswing pa! Muntik
pang mag tango, wala lang kaming music. Napagkasunduan
nang West Coast
chapter na mag Quarterly get together. Next host
is Abet in Chino Hills in
July. We're talking about going up North to where
Edith and Sixto are for the
3rd quarter in '98. We'll keep you posted.
I believe we now have a page that
we could link to yours or the homepage. I have
yet to learn how to pull these
together ... between all of us here, it's just a matter
of time and your
providing a link for us.
June 1
1:00 a.m., after hearing Ferdie's last joke of the day,
late model black Bimmer! Mag Ho-hollywood adventure
yata.
siguro!)..
Gotta get some ZZZZs 'cuz we're off to Knotts Berry Farm later today.
My apologies, with all the activities, we didn't get a
chance to check my e-
at kinopya entirely ang yearbook into jpg files) Kaya
The out-of-towners will surely
pick them up on our Knotts
Berry Farm trip (Edith actually thought we were berry
picking today!)
In case you were wondering, there were 11 of us today.
Albert bumped into
Aida this past week and thought she might've been too
exhausted to come
because she was moving house (bought a home in Fullerton).
Walter didn't get
to come or call...

Hi Ana B!
Here are a few pictures from the last time (nawaglit ang
before and after ni
Pat and Willie) plus Res' after picture .
It was worth it though!
most of which taken
at the Glendale Max restaurant . Marami pang kasunod
araw!)
Hanggang mamaya ....

Subject: labi nang isa (sa sampu) kami!
Here's another guess who picture for the records.
Nag last
walk into the
Ladies' garment shop unescorted by a female, bakit kaya?
Bumili siya nang tops
for Bebeth and Donna - Dennis had to check all of the
houseware shops for
baking needs and an iron rest - Lulu's orders were priority
of course but
nakauwi na sila by now.
Planning for July naman ang aming mode ngayon. We'll
post the date as soon as
it's firm and anyone who can make it is invited ... how's
that? Okay naman
siguro kay Albert and Pearl.
(by choice), I'm
exhilarated and exhausted at the same time ... what a
paradox! Pero "Ressie
talaga" (Sulit di 'ba?)
So many things we learned about and from each other this
go around ... Great
stuff, funny stuff, trivia and it just makes one want
to know and learn more.
When I wake up from this haze, I'll send in a compilation
of these profound
wisdom (chismis included) from one and all of the West
Coast May 31 1998
attendees. I would like to challenge each one of
them to send in their
compilation of the same. You take care Ana B!
Fly in for one of these West
Coast deals and you too will say "Ressie talaga!"

Subject: LA sequel
June 1 pa rin
sila Mila and Hermie.
Ang tagal lumabas nang dalawa! Ang sabi nila, hindi
raw nila alam lumabas
through the back of the house at hindi rin nila alam
buksan sa harap yung
garage opener nang pinsan ni Mila (we say they did a
"Q").
11:15 a.m. - Nasa Knotts Avenue kami pero hindi namin
mahanap ang Knotts!
"Utang na loob, tumigil na tayo at magtanong!"
Alam niyo na, pa-macho nang
boys they're never lost! A Pizza man showed me
the way ...
11:30 a.m. - we parked the van at Knotts, checked out
the map and laid out the
plan, we're going for the shows! The map was not
made for baby boomers!
"Jaguar" a twist and turn roller coaster (can you imagine
these middle aged
men and women on one?), may award sa shrillest and loudest
screams ang Edith!
She wrote all the rides off after that one. Sabi
ni Ed ("hindi ko alam ang
gagawin" so he kept to one side of the car and let Eds
express herself!) -
since his foot was bothering him, Ed wrote off the rides
as well. After
lunch, the remaining four braved a couple more rides
- the Log ride and the
parachute drop - they were fun too! Mila and I
bowed out of the Boomerang
which Dennis and Hermie braved - medyo dalawang
beses nag 360 degrees at
going backward pa yung last go around! "**#%&!!!"
nag-back out daw sila. Any other ride would've
paled in comparisson to that
one so we finally headed on to the "Mystery Lodge" show.
It was beautiful ...
it was a hologram type show and it spoke of passing the
wisdom of the
generations past to the children ... to keep the mystery
of life, love and
magic alive down through the ages. Most profound
show I would say!
3:00 p.m., As we filed out of the Lodge, Mila spots Filipino
singer Florante
and we all stopped to chat, apparently they featured
him in their paper when
he had a concert in Toronto. Sakay sa van at kailangang
maihatid si Edith sa
Burbank airport! Daan muna sa bahay to pick up
her stuff, we had some time
for some fruit...
4:55 p.m., we parked the Van across the Burbank Airport
and walked the halls
toward terminal A6 (ang haba pala noon!) Edith
was the last to board and she
was getting antsy about missing her flight so she took
off before Mila and
Hermie got to the gate pushing Ed in a wheelchair (his
foot was making him
slow and they wanted to wave goodbye!). Naikantsaw
na 'to kay Eds by email
and she has sent her apologies...
5:20 p.m., we dropped in on Noel who gave us all a nickel
and dime tour of
their office. Of note - they are the designing
architects of the Paris Hotel
which is due to open September '99 in Las Vegas.
Tinawagan namin si Ceso to
see if he cud join us for dinner but he was held up at
work.
6:00 p.m.,Ed wanted to check out a halo-halo place and
we found ourselves at
the Kainan Kamayan in Glendale (a buffet place with Halo
halo). Tuloy chibog!
Then we checked out a Borders bookstore and had coffee
and then it was 9:30
p.m.!!! We went back home and picked up Noel to
be our tour guide. He
brought us to Hollywood where Mila and Hermie did the
obligatory Chinese Mann
Theater poses (next to a wax version of Marilyn Monroe
among others). Dennis
and Ed put their feet up in the van (been there done
that na raw sila - with
Hector). We stopped at Rodeo Drive (hinahanap nila
si Julia Roberts - nag-iba
na yata nang beat!) and then to a 24 hr dive for hot
tea (and Noel's dinner -
hindi pa pala kumain). We drove to UCLA and passed
the Getty Center and were
home by 1:30 a.m.
June 2
After breakfast, I called Mila and Hermie (walang sumasagot!
- sila lang nga
pala ang taong bahay doon) so we (Dennis and Ed) drove
to the CITADEL - a
factory outlet at doon nag shop nang pang pasalubong
para sa mga mahal na
naiwan sa Vancouver. Tumuloy pa kami sa Media Center
Mall sa Burbank for more
stuff. Siempre naman nag shopping din ako, hindi
nagtagal, lunch time na
tapos alas tres na! Ang flight nila for Vancouver
eh 5:30 p.m. so we headed
back and said our goodbyes ... nakakalungkot din pala
... I was also relieved
that I could now lay back but because I really enjoyed
the connection I felt
some separation blues (ganoon siguro pag na-empty nest
ang bahay ko - malapit
na 'yon!). Mila called last nite and I told her
all about the day - hinahabol
to go to Las Vegas
tomorrow ...
June 3
Back to work ang beauty ko ... but I felt like sleeping
all day ... even while
I drove home.
fridge, the shelves,
your bathroom shelves ...." "hayaan mo Ferdie,
alam na nang buong pamilya ko
na hinahanap natin ito, I'll call you as soon as....I
gave him Albert and
Hector's telephone numbers - who knows? baka naman
nagbalik high school ang
alin sa kanila ...
Another call ... "Daddie, baka gusto niyo ni Noel sumayaw
sa Brave Bull bukas,
give it an hour or two, you'll really enjoy it... I left
messages for Albert
and Ceso to join us... eh si Ferdie at Willie kaya?"
si Hector naman 'yun,
sabi ko sa kanya "Sa totoo lang I'm very tempted and
we just might do that,
Daddie
