PERRY!!!! Son of a ##@@**%%@@... GLAD TO HEAR FROM YOU MY FRIEND..it's been
a while ha? When I saw your name on the e-mail train, as usual, I got emotional coz you know how it is when you have no idea as to what or where your classmates were.  I'll start with the usual update: Short version for now, if you dont mind. Married, 3 kids 2 girls 1 boy. Moved to Winnipeg, Canada in 1972 after graduating from Adamson U (BSBA). I got kicked out of Diliman 2 sems after Prep. Worked in life insurance sales, and other jobs. I've been with Yamaha Motor Canada for 20 years, as a warehouse manager for Western Region the past 10 years. Over the years, my hobbies (pabago-bago) included fishing and camping,  music, thoroughbred racing as part owner of a stakes horse, dart tournaments as a sponsor, and now or recently stock markets and speculation.  What about you? Have you been in LA all along?
You know what? You and I had a lot of fun in high school, remember? Who else live near your area?  I've been broadcasting about my intended visit to California in July or August, but can't decide where to go; San Fran or LA to hook up with some former classmates.  What do you think? You must be aware of the grand reunion in Y2K, I'm also suggesting having a mini or just a get together in LA or San Fran. Maybe maski tayong dalawa lang, we can have a 'DATE'? Write me back ASAP, okay?  I'll be waiting..........All
the best to you and your family... RENO>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Hi Reno!

Thanks for the trader updates and its advise to SELL,SELL,SELL is really good. But it's good for a bull market. What I really need now is WHEN to BUY,BUY BUY in a bear market that I feel is threatened with even lower indices.

I know what you mean about exciting "putting out fires" kaya i would also like to hear about the technical problems. Unless, it's highly confidential, off course.  The internet is not a secure mode and the "fire" may be detrimental to Yamaha. On second thought, maybe you should not tell me even if I, now, can't sleep trying to figure out what it is. <LOL>

I had been receiving emails with <LOL>s inserted.   Would you believe, I learned what it meant not from an email but from Jerry Barican's column in today's Manila Standard. He wrote about how "a group of Filipino-Americans  from New York City drove to South Brunswick,  New Jersey and attacked, with a baseball bat,  a man whom they had reportedly been arguing  with for several weeks in an online chatroom."

In his closing he wrote:  " ...  I only belatedly learned about, such as  BTW (by the way), OIC (oh, I see), ASL (age, sex,  location), LOL (laughs out loud), to name but a  few.  Thank you, but, so far, standard English  has seen me through, and I am not about to adopt  that strange vocabulary into mine (LOL). CYA.:)"

I also liked Inday's answer to Fred's itinerary:

HI Fred!
I was browsing thru your itinerary and it sounds  like a fun two-day reunion. Sayang hindi kami
makapunta. The dishes for the picnic  seems to be  mouth-watering too - lots of "pendings" to go
around!!!  (just kidding). Anyway, I just want to  extend our warm regards to the 66ers who will be
 there.  Maybe next time.....

 Inday

warm regards,
Manny

Reno my man!! I really have been trying to get Larry and Norma to come to the reunion but they might as well be in Minnesota (tama ba ang spelling ko)like Inday and Noli cuz Larry is understandably busy and we
have timed in wrong for him. Larry.....next time, okey? But promise not to take too long. I will call you this week and maybe we could do lunch. I will bring a camera.  At least these guys can see you.

Manny....Norma has not returned my call yet but Tuesday or Wednesday I will call her again and see if I could at least get some information. Reno, as you can see, I am just scheduling a lunch or maybe an early evening snack with him this week. We have got to see each other.  Taking the train to SF or driving (about one hour away) is okey with me. Dungeness crabs are the best!!!!Sabihin mo lang kung magkano pati na yung Salmon at hati tayo, deal? Basta kay Fred konting konti lang.

I remember Fred when we had our first camping of Post 42 at the UP Oval. He was in another tent with somebody else. Alex Torres and Jeff Suyo were in our tent. We didnt know how to cook rice and we were really starving. After bilasang kanin looked edible in our cooking canteen, we put some tuyo in the fire. It seemed cooked cuz it smelled good and under the fast fading light, starvation and exhaustion, we didn't really care. We divided the available nutrition but Alex didnt want the "ulo ng tuyo so he set it aside" Jeff, little as he is devoured the entire fish. I also set aside the head. Fred came over and said, Do you have any more tuyo left? Alex said, Wala na ulo na lang kung gusto mo? Fred said, okey and away he went with the ulo Alex and I had. After the repast, Mr. Prado told us to get some sleep after finishing the pitching of the
tent.  The next morning I had cold and cough because of the heavy "hamog".

Now, we will eat together again. Please dont give him ulo again. But kung yun and masarap, baka wala ka nang mahingi. Good recipe for Salmon head is sinigang sa misu, or Peasant bouillabaise ( Sinaing sa maraming kamatis at sibuyas, konting bayang at olive oil, finish).

I am happy to hear that you are busy with your work, that means you are needed. Just make sure that you are in San Jose on the 6th. Okey?

Yan si Noli maraming maligno nung high school. If ever I see Heidi again, I will definitely ask. Upang ang matagal nang puso kong nagdurugo ay tuluyan ng humilam. (Ms Crescini will be proud of me. I couldnt even say Bararila, buyoy). At kung magkataon, I have to finally divulge my long kept feeling to two other girls. (Actually, palagay ko init lang yung ng katawan)

Speaking of Crescini.  I hope she heard me even once when I was reporting in the original ABS CBN Radyo Patrol. Halos purong Tagalog. Bagsak kasi ako sa Pilipino nuon. Every time I say some deep and Taal na Tagalog, I think of her. (Hingal!) I have to tell some nice stories about this job. I just got some nice stories from you and Fred and I could probably come up with some soon.  I have to get the house cleaned so I have to go.....Take care and layta!!

Hey, Perry. How are you? It's been hectic(more like a zoo) at work lately. I was dealing with Yamaha outboard technical problems and had to help with the logistic end of it. The mini-crisis is not over yet, I just hope it doesn't get any worse or interfere with the reunion. We even had to work on a weekend, so we can get the parts ASAP to remote locations up North and to Japan for engineering tests.

So, what's cooking with you? I see you've been trying to get Larry and Norma to be at the reunion. Have you two had lunch yet?

Fred's suggestion of us taking the train to SF, will that work for you? Also, if I can get some, I'd like to bring some dungeness crabs for the picnic. We just go crab fishing for them here, and viola, may ulam ka na. I finally got an e-mail from Noli Icasas. I think you got C.C.'d on it.

Anyhow, today, I'm staying home in case we have to react on the Yamaha situation. Three engineers from Yamaha Japan arrived yesterday and flew straight to the camp resorts to conduct more tests. They will take the motors apart and send them to me so I can air freight them to the factory ASAP.

Sorry, dont want to bore you with these stuff.... This is all for now, buddy...I'm just checking in.  Till the next mail and will see ya soon.

Yo!!! Perry... I dont know about Noli, maraming pakulo noon. We'll discuss your high school sweetheart frustrations when I get there. That was a funny Explorer story!!! This time no more ULO... You know back then, my parents cant afford to let me join, so I missed out, but it was OK.

I didn't know you did Radio Patrol. I bet that was an exciting experience. Make sure you tell your news life stories in our get together.  About the salmon and crabs, we'll worry about the costs later, I might get them GRATIS from one or some Yamaha dealers in Vancouver Island. I always get some smoked salmon as well from other dealers as an appreciation gift. If I get sockeye salmon, they're best barbecued on hickory coals lightly
sprinkled  with dill weed and rosemary. If we get some, I'll cook the salmon barbecue.  Crabs have to be steam cooked when I bring it across the border, but will be as good as fresh. Not really sure yet if I can bring some.
Perry, I think its best we follow Fred's recommendation to take the train to SF. It eliminates or reduces chances of screwing up- baka magkalito-lito. Besides, it looks like that him meeting us at the station fits his own transportation plans. Agreed?

Well, its getting late, and tomorrow is Monday(again?). Got to prepare myself physically and mentally, coz I'm gonna be SUPER BUSY all week.  I was just informed that Yamaha Canada's new  President Mr. Nakamura ( we have a new one every five years ) will be visiting my warehouse July 17th. Ayyayayy. MORE PRESSURE, and the week hasn't even started yet!!!

Regards and see ya soon,
Reno

Hi Jess!!

I'm not sure if we should push the August 1st reunion.  We were timing it for Fred, but apparently he returns to California on Saturday (Aug 1st) so he won't be able to attend.

Let's just have a mid-week mini-reunion for Fred. And wait for Ray to return from the States before we start thinking of coming up with a Saturday reunion.

Fred had written:
"...Raymond Dan, is vacationing with his family in  Maine and Rhode Island.  He will be returning to  San Francisco on July __.  On July 24, the Bay Area  66ers will take him out to dinner at Bridges  (Danville, CA).  For your information, Bridges  was used as a movie set in the filming of a  restaurant scene of Mrs. Doubtfire.

warm regards,

Fred,.... which train station are you going to meet us? Or is it too  early to ask? Take your time. Larry and I talked on the phone again this  morning so we could set a dinner date. Tentatively at Max's restaurant  in Glendale. Parang sa RP, crispy chicken. Kaya lang iba ang lasa ng  manok, masyadong malinis. He will probably confirm tomorrow. I will  bring my camera.     Manny...I got the attachment from Ana Urbina...it does not look good.  We should get in touch with Fred and Butch re: second round campaign for  Ms. Cruz....Your idea of having dinner on a boat at the bay is my idea  of a great meeting. Beautiful! I hope you guys enjoy. I was suddenly  thrown back in time and my memory bank retrieved the images of Manuel  "Boy" Rubio, Eric(son) Ragas, Amador Rio at Manny Singson. Kung hindi  sila umaatend maybe we could ask them for pictures for our website. When  I visited Prep65 site there were before and after pictures and it is  just the most convenient and exciting way of remembering everybody, don't  you think? You were right. Kami nga ang bantay salakay so I could go  with you to the cafeteria. The others had P.E. classes or baka nga  nanood ng sine.

Dont worry about Edna....we'll always get in touch with her from now on  because I didnt know that her kids and my nephews were classmates and  e-mail buddies when my brother still lived in Mira Mesa.."home of the  Top Gun school" They still own the house there. But now he's in San Jose  where Reno and I will stay.....yan muna mga kaibigan ang ating mga  pag-uulat...hanggang sa muli.....nagpapasalamat, ingat!!!

Here I am, still quietly seeing how things go. Sorry for not being active in exchanging email, but I can't ignore this one and not make you aware I'm in the loop.

Nakakainggit ang forthcoming reunion n'yo! I just came back with my wife from Vancouver and SanFran though for a much needed break. I'm sorry I couldn't get the time to get in touch with you and Reno but I'll make sure that happens the next time.

I work for Jardines here, after a 10-year stint in Jakarta. We left Jakarta for Manila in 1996, a few years before the crisis. I guess you can say it was good timing but I think it was meant to be. We have 2 kids, the eldest recently graduated from UP and the second is on his 3rd yr., also in UP.

Stay in touch, it's really good reading your email.

Best regards,

Hi Larry!!

Ang galing ng meeting ninyo ni Perry. Nakakainggit.  Dadalawa lang
pero naka 4 hours kayo.  Iba na talaga ang "short pants gang"--kahit
dadalawa reunion rin ang resulta.  Nuong ni-ro-rollcall ni Perry
iyong members ninyo at sinabing "Filo Naza..." Biglang navisualize
ko si Filomena naka white shirt and short khaki pants.
Sorry, Filo wherever you are. Umattend ka ng reunion at talagang
maraming kaming gustong gusto kang makita uli.

Larry! Bob and Alice Sayson will definitely be at the August 8 reunion
in SanFran. They will be driving from Canada (I don't exactly know
wherefrom pero Pacific coast rin) and they might be able to get
Flora to come along.

Attend ka na ha!! This will most likely be
PREP66ER'S FIRST AND LAST PACIFIC COAST REUNION OF THE CENTURY.
Di ka na magkaqualify after you move to Toronto. Kaya join ka na ha.
Be ready also for our next American reunion before the century ends.
It will have to include Noli/Inday and Ernie. But, of course, plan to
attend our Grand Grand Reunion here in Manila in the year 2000.

Unless the out of towners come prepared for the August 8 picnic,
you will most likely be welcomed by a new "short pants gang"
I think mas mainit sa Hercules kaysa sa City.

EDNA!!
Can you attend the reunion? Punta ka na ha! Darating si Bob/Alice
at baka si Flora rin.  Now kung makapunta si Larry-- ikaw na lang
ang maabsent sa --
PREP66ER'S FIRST AND LAST PACIFIC COAST REUNION OF THE CENTURY.
. I think, 'twas you, who said, "I'll really really try to...(attend)".
So pls. really, really, really try to attend ha. Pag di ka umattend
sigurado kong marami kang ma-mimiss na istorya at istoryahan.

PERRY!!
You must mean Aresenio Nicolas (not Anselmo Trinidad ) And don't
forget your camera next time you meet with Larry.  Baka nanduon si
Norma. I twist mo rin ang arm in Larry.  Magaling iyang sumulat.
Associate editor yan ng annual. Baka gusto rin niyang mageditor
sa website natin. Tayo na lang ang contributor at si Neph ang
webmaster.

RENO!!
You started this!  You were going to Las Vegas when you hooked up
w/Perry then Fred invited you both and now you all have a full scale
reunion.  Aren't you glad that instead of the sweltering heat of
the desert, you would be engulfed with the warmth of old friends?
CORNY!!... EDIT/EDIT...CUT!!!

warm regards to all

Reno San, Ikaga desu ka? Watakushi wa Perry desu! I already forgot my
conversational Nippon. I took the course when I was also Materials
manager for Mabuhay Vinyl Corporation way back in the seventies. Careful
the smile of Japanese officers. They will not discuss whatever errors
they see with you but to your superior. But then again, so does
Americans. But I am glad you've gone through with flying colors. Basta
Prepian walang kaba. The next one should be a just a piece of buko pie.
You would not believe what Larry and I talked about last night at
Max's restaurant. We met at precisely 7:30 p.m. ordered gulaman for him
and buko for me cuz it was really sizzling hot in LA. 102 and 104
degrees!!! for the last three days. Then the crispy half chicken
specialty. He still looks like Larry, thank God. Only, like me, his hair
is turning white but still curly, small tire in his waist, not
overweight and remembers a lot about our school and events. I could kick
myself for forgetting the camera but we will have dinner again before I
leave for SF so okey lang. We were laughing so hard people were looking.
Do you know how much you could talk about from 7:30 to 11:30? NOT
ENOUGH. I am still hoping that he would be able to come to the reunion
and Noli, Inday, and Edna too. Larry will try call Norma this time. So
here are some bits and pieces of our date which will give you an idea
what we talked about...some of which are classified "embargo" if printed
verbatim.......
Manny....ano ba daw, nuong first year, mayroon kang "clay" na
nilagay mo kung saan tapos kinakusap mo yung mga chicks?...I missed
that.
Sino yung nagsapakan sa isang kwarto na kalaban yung isang batch
67?. 66 whipped his butt.
Jess, sino naman yung hinamon mo sa likod at kung natuloy yun match?
Kapitan ka na ba nuon? Sabi ko pa naman ang bait mo. May mga maligno ka
pa bang ginawa after high school?
We were both wondering where Myrna Lopez is? Inday, kayo nina Ernie
yata ang magkakasama sa med school, any info? Sabihin mo kaagad sa akin,
ha? Bisto na yata ako.
Nasaan na ba si Pet Baracosso?
Larry reminded me of names to match the images I had.  Mr.
Torralba...the clarinet...the clarinet goes kuwangkuwangkuwanget..Mr
Nemesio Ceralde..with his cigarette holder..Peristylo!!!why are you not
in class?.."I forgot my book in Danilo Reyes' locker sir, so I'm asking
Bala to get it, cuz he forgot his book in Barican's locker,
too....Rollie...biro lang. Actually Joey Mundo was the best lock
picker..He had memorized a lot of the codes.. Biro din lang Joey...I
remember Vic Yenko cupping his hand around the master lock dial, peeking
closely with one eye while turning to unlock....and still he would come
during the break with his lock open...wala namang nawala... and Mr
Rubio's tobacco smoke trail...Bless his Soul...I told Larry that I
thought I was the only one still wearing shorts in high school. He said
he, too, was wearing shorts, Danilo Reyes, Jeff Suyo...Filo Naza...ay
hindi....were other members of the "short pants gang"...Filo...where are
you? Sweet but sharp little girl from Cavite...would I like to meet her
again...Gerry Barican's performance of Columbus...by Joachim
Miller...Gerry, when are you going to be U.P. President?...ang tagal
naman. I was just telling Larry that U.P. Los Banos were still in the
araro era and Diliman's computer system to assist in the registration
was not in full use...rather not in use and still mano mano in
processing semestral registrations. The kids looked like they were
lining up for visa at the U.S. Embassy. The people at the Diliman
registration, inspite of the frustrating process still manage to be
courteous and helpful to students. But the way the papers were piled and
just stacked on tables make me wonder that maybe my transcripts are
still there lying around. They need help with new technology...fast.
Larry's kid and mine just use the phone to register in school...takes
fifteen minutes. Twenty minutes, at most, if you go to the school
personally. You dont need to seek your Professor in three other
buildings or wait for him to arrive, (you dont know if he ever will) for
signature to accept you in their class. Masyado nang kawawa ang
students, buildings, gardens. UP graduates are now computer engineers
and programmers...maybe a volunteer "fix blitz" to install a
computerized registration can be organized to help our "future
leaders"....  ....Larry had been busy packing that he had not seen some
portions of the web page that contained the different threads. He will
look into it. One of his sons will be going to the University of
Toronto. I also told him that Mrs. Lilia Rabago, math teacher, is now
the Dean of College of Education. I said hello to her about two years
ago.
When there was an educational trip to Bicol, I believe either later
part of first year or early second year, I was asking everyone who was
the rock group playing that song ...Well she was just seventeen and you
know what I mean....first time I ever heard of the Beatles. First time I
danced the "Twist" with Bob Reyes' sister, Eileen, at the Explorer Scout
Post 42 investiture in Diliman. 'Yes.. where are you?... I was trying to
remember a classmate named Trinidad...Anselmo? chinky eyed, tall guy
like Vic and Fred.  I have asked Larry to please bring the annual next
time we meet. He still has it. I forgot the camera..he forgot the
annual.
I'm afraid I will use up the memory in this computer if I dont
stop... I will continue my stories later and then connect them to the
"Bay area reunion".  Take care my friend..my warmest to the family.
Arigatoo, Sayonara.

Like you said, the Nakamura "guy" was a piece of cake.  We were a little bit
worried picking him up and his group at the airport, when we could'nt
find him for about 45 minutes after the flight was completed. It turned out
their luggage was the last to come out. Whew!  You wouldn't wanna be
the first idiot to miss  the President at the airport, right?

So, your flight is booked, so is mine, we have a place to stay, an
itinerary to follow, ANO NA LANG ANG KULANG??  (I'll leave that with
you, I can think of a dozen things, but.........you know). Baka may maka
intercept, he-he-he-he-.

So here we go my friend, JUST A MATTER OF DAYS!!! Ahh, I think I'll
bring some champagne to add a little  of a  Canadian flavor to this memorable
event. Okay, Pare, we'll keep in touch.  I will also try to contact Jess
Lucas this weekend.  Yeah, he was one of the most straight headed guys
I've ever known, to this day. We were also buddy-buddy at 2nd year or 3rd
year, but he got so good at almost everything he did then, I couldnt keep up,
so I kinda faded away from him, especially when he became captain of the
Model Platoon.

Gee, this sounds like a LOVE STORY now--- EDIT/EDIT...CUT!!!
Take care my friend, I'll see ya later.

Hello...How was your trip, Fred? Sounds like you guys had a wonderful time!
That's really great!  Can't wait to hear your stories from your Manila
reunion.
Butch:  Your picture at Bridges Restaurant- looks good. I can still see the
young faces of you, Fred, and Ed and Ray, inside somewhat "different"
bodies ( just kidding)!
FRED: You haven't aged! What's your secret? Couldn't be V.....?
PERRY:  How you doing, buddy? I'm on vacation mode now, so I'm relaxing
while cutting the grass, paint the porch, and clean up the garden.  The
countdown is on... 3 DAYS TO GO!! I'll e-mail you every night to keep you
posted and also to organize our rendezvous at the airport.  SHALL WE USE A
PASSWORD??
MANNY: I wanna hear your version of the Manila Polo Club reunion.  Just to
get a an overview would be OK, like who were there and did anybody do
anything juvenile ( like high school?). Please advise any Prep 66 in Manila
if they can send me any pictures via e-mail, I'd appreciate it.
INDAY/NOLI: Hey, you guys been lying low? Inday, as promised I mailed you
the investment letters last week, so you should get them no later than this
coming Friday.
FRED/BUTCH and the rest of the Bay Area Boys:  SEE YOU ALL SOON!!!
Reno>>>>>>>
