As we look back, we stop to think why
that year now past means so much to us. What made it memorable, exciting?
Often, we find that only the happy, joyful moments remain unforgettable,
only the new experiences come back in reverie. Forgotten are the monotonous
regularities of Prepian life. Left only are the memories of . . .
The most expensive and uproarious
elections ever held . . . a year notable for the numerous suspensions,
reprimands, disciplinary action . . . An exhilarating tour through five
provinces to Baguio . . . a four-section freshman class . . A district
meet hosted by our local Interact Clubs . . . An inter-school chess tournament
. . . an active and reorganized newspaper . . . "South Pacific" . . . The
Glee Club Concert . . . A piano for the school . . . A caroling group of
Prepians and their bookshelves for the library . . . The nine NSDB
scholars . . . New clubs . . . The new Alma Mater Song of U.P Prep . .
. The Vice President and his promise of a lot for a future Prep site .
. . The third floor flood . . . Students selling Juffru and chocolates
. . . Roses for girl crushes . . .
These were the things that made 1965-1966
distinct. One did not simply have to exist during these times -- one had
to live. It was a terribly exciting year, made even more so by the
character and attitudes of the Prepians themselves.
Clashing between one another when
in discord over certain matters, working together for the common interest,
these prepians gave much to the making of a memorable year.
Ultimately, as we gaze in retrospect
at that year, 1965-1966 had meaning only for those who had "lived" it.
To each and every Prepian, 1965-1966
was memorable for his own personal reasons, but most of all, because he
had a part in the making of that year.
