Mom
Author: Brian Dominguez
you put the last item of
baggage in the truck
with the close of the tailgate,
you pull out of the drive
Off you go to start a life of your own
but you seem to be overlooking
what your leaving behind.
the thought of leaving is pleasant
to the mind but what about mom
the love she has for you is eternal
she sits up at night waiting for your return
Resting on your bed she realizes
you're not coming home
she understands that you left
but still she peeks to see you sleeping
all she sees is a cold dark room
that used to be occupied by you
this reminds her you are grown up
she sits on the edge of the bed
remembering when you were little
when you could sit on her lap and absorb her love
although her work with you is done
she wishes she could do it all over again
even if your grown she still can help
she could always make the worst things alright
One thing to remember about mom
she is an adult just like you
treat her with respect
she has feelings too
Until the end she'll be by your side
remember always that her love is true
and to include her in all that you do.
