Family Vacation in Lake Shasta, CA in May 2000

View of the Lake from the Caverns Exit

Here's a shot of Lake Shasta taken from the long stairway at the end of the cavern tour we took. The lake is huge, with arms and fingers reaching out over several miles. It's surrounded by pristine mountains and forest.

View from the Balcony

Here's the view from our cabin, the last one in the long row. The whole family stayed at this resort (motel) right above the lake. We all shared large rooms with kitchens and multiple sleeping areas. I got a fold-out couch all to myself even though I was supposed to be sharing with somebody. I don't remember exactly how that happened.

Just lucky I guess.

Cousin Rachel

Here's a photo of my sweet cousin Rachel on the beach. We rented a party boat ( strange term, in my opinion) and cruised around the lake all day.

I remeber it was on that beach that I felt what was among the first of a series of episodes of nausea that have plagued me into the Fall of 2000.

I'm sure it has nothing whatever to do with Rachel, though.

Mom in the Cave

A happy picture of my mom in the caverns we visited. There are these natural caves in the mountains above Lake Shasta filled with amazing crystal rock formations.

There's a sign on one of the cavern walls that was painted on my birthday over one hundred years ago showing when the caves were originally discovered.

Here's my mom and Tom an the stairway that goes back down the mountain after the cavern tour.

The stairway was a pretty good part of the tour.

My grandparents, Jim and Joan, came to pick me up at the resort so I could visit them for a couple of days.

Here's Joan, Jim, Carolyn, and Tom, respectively, next to the resort swimming pool.

Here's me and Grandpa in a beautiful park in Ashland, Oregon, right before I had to go to the airport.

Unfortunately, we didn't see any Shakespeare, but I did get to drink from this water fountain in the center of town that purportedly spews "healing water."

The healing water was gross, but I did feel better afterwards. Mostly when the taste started to dissipate from my mouth.

Grandma and Grandpa at the park.

Grandma likes the healing water. She says you have to get used to it.

Belinda (me) sitting by the creek in the park. Adios, Ashland!

You may notice that some of my hair is bright red.

Right now, it's bright purple.
