of cloudless climbs

and starry skies?

thus was writ a poem of lies

oh this affair with the sky above

tell me then, tell me

what has the sky to do with love?

ever changing is the moon

and the sun would leave us just as soon

twinkling are the stars at night

but faster still would they take flight

gaudy is the light of day

who soon would whisk romance away

for lover in the yellow light

looks prettier still in purple night

who writes of clouds so grey and dreary

would poets make love to be as weary?

when lightning tears the sky apart

write me then of the human heart

if you find love based on the sky

it on the tempest's wing shall fly

never constant is that love

aye, constant as the sky above

love will change with every rain

and what then is love but a sky of pain?
