Why doesn’t daddy love me, I heard the young boy say,
He does, his mother said, now please go out and play.
Then why can’t we live with him, why do we have to go,
His mother just looked away, because she really didn’t know.
Questions from a troubled child, from a home that's split in two,
Often we have no answers, we do what we have to do.
Separation is an awful word, it’s what happens when feelings die,
But the children suffer most, they will always wonder why.
Do you love me daddy? Why can’t you spend the night?
He was too young to understand, the wrongness in the right.
It hurts so much to love your child, and not have them around.
Nothing else fills a house so well, nothing I have found.
If only a child could understand, our parting is not their fault,
Life is like a test sometimes, where answers are not taught.
Yes, daddy loves you, much more than you can see,
Later in life you’ll realize, why we had to be free.
Never will I stop loving you, your questions make me sad,
I wish our hurts could go away, I’m proud to be your dad.
