Once there was a tall giant who lived on top of Fantasy Mountains just around
the Enchanted Valley. He was very good to people and everybody loved him.
Whoever came to the mountains, he used to take for a ride on the clouds.
People used to bring stars with them, but as soon as they reached the Earth
the stars would break.
One day Samar, a very intelligent girl, went on a Cloud Ride with Mr. Big,
the good giant. She was a very nice little girl who read a lot of books;
so for her, finding Aladdin’s Lamp or Snow White’s Seven Dwarves
was not at all strange or scary. That is why when she saw the giant she was
not scared or anything. In fact, she was very happy to see him. When she
went for her Cloud Ride up above the world so high she was very excited.
She found a beautiful, glittering star that really looked like a diamond
in the sky. She brought it down with her; but the same thing happened to
her star too. It broke. She had read so many books that she knew exactly
what to do. She wished on the breaking star! She wished that she could go
to Fairy Land and meet Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, Snow White, Red Riding
Hood and all the other people she had always read about.
All day long she waited for her wish to come true, some fairy-god-mother
to appear. When it started to get dark ,she at last started to wonder if
whatever she had read about stars and wishes was true at all. That night
when she went to sleep she had lost all hope. Just then, something very strange,
some sort of magic, happened.
Without knowing where she was going, she sleep walked into another world.
It was very beautiful. The rainbow was the big entrance gate. Bright colored
butterflies were sitting on even brighter flowers. Huge birds flew in the
perfect blue sky. When she looked harder, she gasped. They were not birds
at all. They were fairies! She was in Fairy Land! The biggest wish of her
life had actually come true.
She skipped and hopped about for some time before bumping into a cute little
fairy. This fairy was just as old as Samar with the most beautiful wings.
She’d a tiny wand that had a star on top, just like the one that Samar
had brought down with her from the sky. "Hello, I am Sara,”"said the
little Fairy, "I haven’t seen you here before. How did you get here?"
Samar told her the whole story. The little fairy was a very friendly and
nice. She took Samar to two other fairy-friends, Lyla and Gale. Samar was
very happy to meet them all. Just then, something happened to disturb that
happiness. A wicked witch dressed all in black flew past on her broom. Samar
was very scared. "Mama," she cried. She wanted to go back to her safe home.
When Sara, Gale and Lyla saw her crying they were most surprised. "How did
you get that water in your eyes?" they asked. "Can’t you see that I
am crying?" Samar shouted. She saw that no one here understood her. This
was not her home, her world. Oh how she missed everyone... Mama, Daddy, even
her silly brother, Addy. "I want to go home," she told Sara. "But you came
here to meet your favorite characters," Sara reminded her, "they live in
a different area of Fairy Land where they were kept safely from evil witches
and wizards." "Then I won’t find them anyway," Samar said. Sara said
she would help her because her mother was Sleeping Beauty’s fairy-god-mother
who could take them there the very next day.
The next morning Samar and the little fairies got up very early. Samar was
very excited. They set off carrying little picnic baskets with Power-Packed
Juice that gave you power and Pop Biscuits that made you invisible when you
ate them. When they reached the area, fairy-god-mother knew something was
wrong. It was very silent. She wondered if they should or should not enter
without knowing exactly what was wrong. Samar was frightened. Then she remembered
the pop biscuits and, being the intelligent girl that she was, she had a
clever idea.
She told her plan to her friends and they all agreed. All of them ate their
pop biscuits before entering. That was very smart because just then the same
wicked witch that they had seen before flew past. She was the queen of bad
witches. Somehow she had found out where the good fairies had hidden their
human friends. She had come to get all the people who had ever been saved
from any wicked witch and were living happily ever after. She just did not
like happy endings of that sort. How could anyone live happily ever after?
She also wanted to be famous and be a part of the stories too.
She moved round and round on her broom. "I can smell enemies," she shouted.
Fairy-god-mother wanted to fight her but she had a guest to think about.
How could she put Samar in trouble? By now Samar had thought of her next
plan. She told Sara to fly up and pour Power-Packed juice on the witch’s
broom. Sara did just that and the broom went mad. It flew and whirled at
such great speed that the wicked witch felt dizzy and fell down, making a
lot of noise. Red Riding Hood’s father who was cutting wood in the forest
heard that and came running. When he saw all the princes and princesses tied
down with ropes he cut them all loose. Sleeping Beauty’s prince gave
her a punch, Snow White’s gave her a kick and Cinderella’s a blow.
The witch ran away to save her life, swearing that she would never come there
again.
Then fairy-god-mother moved her wand around Samar and the little fairies
and they were no longer invisible. Fairy-god-mother told everyone how Samar
had helped defeat the witch and everyone thanked her sincerely. Samar was
very happy to meet them all and could now go home much happier.
Fairy-god-mother asked her to close her eyes. Samar could see her mother
calling her. "Samar," she called, "Samar you are going to be late for school."
Samar opened her eyes and she was in her bed. Had she dreamt all that? The
pop biscuit in her pocket answered her question.
