Naming names
A side effect of the largest population grouping of humans arising from a relatively small population of initial settlers, is the uselessness of surnames for differentiate between people. It is estimated that one fifth of the population has the surname "Smith".

Thus everybody gains a descriptive "naming name". The naming name will often change as the person grows older, changes jobs, or moves from place to place.

Fenlanders take grim delight in denying all and everybody the right to choose their own naming name, believing that such behaviour would inevitably result in "Fatheadedness" and conceit. Naming names are always chosen by rough consensus of those around you, and are never complimentary. The person who first thought up the name is said to have "gifted" the victim with the name.

The other side to this situation is that after the Hip Hop boys, the battalions of old lady marriage arrangers come genetic councillors come next in the social strata of the fens.

As the population has grown, the issue has become less pressing, and love struck couples have such a large number of old ladies to consult, that they can inevitable find one that will bless their marriage!
