I was asked to paint a fishing scene – that’s fishing as in angling. Although the customer could not afford the original painting, he offered to buy a print if I undertook to paint one. As landscapes tend to be quite saleable, I agreed to do it. At the same time I was invited on to the Nick Gurdler Show on BBC Radio, where they wanted me to paint at the same time as being interviewed. That’s how come much of this work was painted live on air. Just to be mischievous, I painted the customer in as the fisherman, so I guess it’s a portrait too. The customer was real pleased with it because he said it made him look slim?
