This one developed from a series of thumbnail sketches created for a client.
Although it didn't end up being the image they selected, it just seemed a waste not to turn the sketch in to a finished work.
I wanted to show a ship at rest, the sails taken in, the spars lowered and a party rowing to shore.
This 'Royal Sovereign' had quite a distinguished career.
As I actually have copies of the drafts of this vessel and it's full service history, so you may well see more info and images on this subject.
