Meat Me at the Pole '98
Friday, March 6
Heretics, castaways, exiles; cretins, barbarians, and churls, lend me your meat!
This mighty festival of meat has nothing to do with meat. We are here today to prove a point and to wake up sleeping minds. The purpose of this gathering is to make us realize that everything is a game, and that the game is fun. *The* system is merely *a* system, and we can choose to ignore it and make our own system. The rules, and this goes for not just the written rules, but also, and more importantly, the unwritten rules, are largely arbitrary or convenient, and the world will not crumble if the rules are broken. Our culture, our parents, teachers and peers have been telling us not only what to do, but how to look, what to wear, and WHAT TO THINK while doing it. They tell us what is acceptable or unacceptable, what is possible or impossible, and usually we believe them. I'm telling you right now that a whole lot more is possible than you may think.
Here we are, defying normality, celebrating something as plain as meat, and having fun doing it. But have you noticed what a stir this event has caused? Just by acting differently we have drawn hostility from various factions. They fear chaos and they fear FREE THOUGHT. They fear oddity, they fear anything slightly weird, and they curl up into little balls of consternation and think of ways to make it all go away. We are not going to go away! We are going to challenge the norm. We are going to think for ourselves, live for ourselves, and be ourselves.
Please, by all means, email the MLF if you have any questions, comments, suggestions, or
whatever. We intend to go public and open our ranks to new membership in the very near future (Monday?).
