When I woke up this morning, I simply didn't want to come to work. I like my job, I love the people I'm currently working with, but it's about as challenging is hacking up phlegm. I get bored when I'm not challenged. I slack off.
At the top of the metro escalators, girls were handing out something to passers-by; of course I took one. I looked at it while I walked down the street. It was a little wrapped strawberry candy stapled, by the edge of its wrapper, to a small square of paper. The paper said:
The Pure Love Pledge
The pure relationship between a man and a woman is a sacred gift to be cherished and honored for the sake of building a true family, healthy society and a world of peace for future generations. Once that love is consumated [sic], it should never be broken. Therefore I commit myself to: *Respect and honor the ideal purity in myself and others * Practice pure love as a child, friend, spouse and parent * Refrain from all sexual relationships before marriage * Dedicate myself to absolute fidelity within marriage * Encourage others to do the same

I got in to work to find this. That's so horrible, especially as her kitty got sick at the same time mine did. Be certain to offer condolences.
Not too many exciting things happened on Tuesday. Joe and his brother, John, came over. We sat in my kitchen, watching T.V. and drinking beer. I woke up on Wednesday morning with a bad stomach ache, but forced myself to go to work anyway.
That was a bad day at work. I decided, by about 9 that morning, that I definitely wasn't coming in the next day. I wanted to get stuff done, anyway, and it's hard when your workday takes about twelve hours out of your day. So, I stayed home on Thursday.
Dirk and I went to the college to pay our tuition (I ended up taking Database Management Software). Lucky us, guess who was there at the exact same time? You guessed it — Krisco. We even had the spectacular misfortune of passing by her in the main hallway. We didn't give her a second glance, although she was making doe-eyes at Dirk again. Afterward, Dirk, Joe, Marie (Joe's girlfriend — the one visiting from New Mexico) and I went to Georgetown. We had lunch at this diner-like place, then went on to Smash! Records. It's moved since the last time we were there, about a year ago.
We found this astonishing MC5 album. It's got a picture of their little logo (the flag, the pot leaf, etc) in color, imprinted on the vinyl. It's a rarities and live tracks LP. We snapped that up right away. We also found something called Henry Rollins and the Hard-Ons, for only 4 bucks.
Aaron was angry that we went out with Joe and Marie without him. Aaron doesn't have too much to occupy his free time.
'Bert came over on Thursday night, as planned. We watched Tromeo and Juliet. If you've never seen it, go out and rent it. It's a parody of Romeo and Juliet, and it's one of the most hilarious things I've ever seen. Specifically, it's a parody of that sickening version of Romeo and Juliet that came out a couple years ago.
I woke up feeling awful on Friday, which is always what happens when I stay home from work. Being the lazy sot that I am, I simply called in again. I spent a lot of the morning online, replying to e-mail and stuff. I brought Dirk his lunch at work, then called Katie up when I got home. Her allergies were acting up — mine have never been that bad. We talked all afternoon...it's been a long time since we've had the time to do that. We used to do that damn near every day when we were both in High School. Damn, I miss that, even though we were always complaining about how bored we were.
I made tentative plans to get together with her and Chris, but found out that we'd already made plans with Joe and Marie. Since my parents were still in San Francisco, we decided to have a get-together (small party) at my house. Katie and Chris went out to eat (since we really weren't going to have any food at the party), and called later to say that they wouldn't be coming. Katie's allergies were acting up again.
It was a fun party. Jason and his girlfriend came over, and we all watched Tromeo and Juliet while drinking. Marie and I were the only ones not drinking beer. We drank Jack Daniels something-or-other punch, a large bottle of strawberry zinfandel, and straight vodka. The straight vodka was drunken last, when we were already too tipsy to notice the taste much. We were the drunkest ones there, and we didn't care. We didn't notice much of the movie at all.
After the movie was over, Marie and I wandered into my room to talk in private. Aaron and Dirk followed us there, and we shoved them out of the room, screaming, "Girls rule and boys drool!" Then we started rather dreamily talking about stuff.
Everyone left at about three in the morning. It was a great evening.
Doshu's supposed to come to practice to drop off our stuff. This is it. The formal good-bye. We knew he was out anyway. The very day he called and told us why he wouldn't be at practice, we knew he was out. This just makes it all final. Somebody's going to have to hold me back, just in case I get the urge to slap him.
People are assholes.
