My eyes are burning because I'm sick. I'm at work because I didn't want to risk taking two non-related sick days off in the same week. My supervisor wouldn't much like that. So I'm sitting at my desk while I weakly cough and sniffle and clear my throat. And my tonsils are swelling up again.

Shutup. I don't care if you didn't want to know that. I'm trying for a moment of clarity here and you're just getting in the way.

I've been fighting the good fight with our server, which has had many problems in the past week; the number 1 problem being that it wouldn't connect to the internet. The number two problem is that I just couldn't be bothered to hassle with it after a few tries and I just ate Halls Defense Vitamin C in a frantic effort to keep the nasty flu-virus away. Especially after I found out that the two chicas in the cubicles next to mine are recovering from the flu and probably got their horrid virus-spittle on me. I wish the Vitamin C came in grape flavor (ala dimetapp), but it doesn't so I'm settling for strawberry. I've eaten a bunch (you don't need to know how many).

Let us amuse ourselves with our Wu-names, which have some relationship to the Wu-Tang Clan, I assume. You just plug in your first and last name and, voila! Results in an instant, and a name you can cherish for life.

My real name = "Illegitimate Muslim Fundamentalist"
My fake name = "Tha Prickly Comedian"
Dirk's name = "Cheeky Delinquent"
Katie = "Auxillary Priest"
My ex (using his real last name) = "Crafty Barnardo"
My ex (using his imaginary last name) = "Childish Gambino"
My ex (using everyone's secret pet name for him) = "Top-Heavy Hookjaw"
Dirk's ex (Krisco) = "Bellowing Rap Machine"
My ex's fiancee* = "Tha Winged Cow"

Wow, that was almost as fun as the love calculator, wasn't it? For your own enjoyment of this unbelievably useful service, go to WuName.

* I couldn't actually remember her last name, so I just kind of made one up that seemed fitting. There was no way of knowing, however, that the results would be so on-target.

So there's been snow here. Not blizzard-amounts, but enough on Tuesday (when the sand and salt people were unprepared) to make me wait for four hours to catch a bus. See, I waited in the slug line for a ride for almost an hour until my mother came along and rescued me. Traffic was stand still at the Pentagon so nobody was picking up riders. It was also stupid to attempt to board the bus from there because there were enough people waiting in line to fill five buses. Possibly because the buses couldn't get to the terminal.

All of this because of a paltry amount of snow. I swear, the people around DC turn into utter morons when snow falls. Anyway, we ended up taking the metro to Springfield and catching the bus there. Of course, we had to wait about an hour and a half. All told, I waited out in the cold for 4 hours. I got home at 9:00 that night. So, I'm sure you understand why I wasn't enamored with the idea of going to work the next day.

I've put a deposit on the apartment we want, and am herding the boys into filling out their applications. This should be interesting. I was actually the one who made the decision on the apartment we want because the boys were too busy hemming and hawing and looking for more apartments. Keep in mind the fact that they have to be outta their place sometime in February.

I woke up yesterday morning at 3 a.m. with the sound of the doorbell in my ears. I immediately hopped out of bed, wondering who would be stupid enough to wake us up at that hour. Since Dirk's car had broken down (again), it crossed my mind that he might be wanting a right to work – but not that early. And he wouldn't be stupid enough to walk in all that snow. I looked out the peephole and saw Dirk - or Aaron. They both look the same in those knitted caps they're so fond of. While I was looking and deciding what to do, he started knocking. Since my parents hadn't yet been woken up and I couldn't see any benefits to waking them up, I opened the door and let him in.

I turned out to be Aaron, broken down during his paper route not two houses up from mine. I offered to drive him home and made him wait while I changed, then brought him home. Then I couldn't go to sleep. And I started feeling odd around my sinuses. And then it was time to get up for work.

I wish I could skip band practice this week-end. I know the practice room is going to be cold and I don't want to deal with it right now. But we go to the studio in a week, so there isn't much choice in the matter.

I'm going to finish this off with a little reminder to join my notify list. There's a link on the bottom. Make good use of it.
